Getting the most out of my anvil

If I were you, I would throw a few bags (3-4) of Quik-Crete (cement mix) in the bottom of the hole you dig to bury it, and then hose enough water in to mix it kind of thick, and let it set before back filling, especially if you get a lot of water in there. If you're only burying it to where the paint stops (not deep enough IMO) you'll need some extra mass. Since it's pretty shallow, you'll be better off making a hole twice as big around as the stand, and filling it with cement most of the way, leaving yourself room for an inch or two of dirt.

This will be much more effective. I'd expect to come see your anvil tilted at an angle otherwise, next time a good rain comes.

Thanks all for the help, I got it built and mounted and it works like a charm! I am going to forge some rebar to make bands around it.

Looks nice and solid. I'm jealous.

John, I like the sand idea and may try that. Thanks.
