Well, Friday is my retirement ceremony from the Air Force. After 20 years it's here. I've been in since I was 17 and am not sure what I'm going to do Monday morning when I don't have to get up and put the uniform on. I've done a lot in my career. The two most rewarding, were being a First Sergeant and my current job of training medics on how to survive in a deployed environment and prepare them to respond to disasters/terrorist attacks.

It's been a great ride that's ready to come to an end. Not sure what the future will hold for me, but I wouldn't trade the last 20 years for anything.

Thank you for your service. May God bless you and your family.

Do some traveling. Spend time with friends and family. Take some RAT knives and go camping.

That is a very cool offer, and well deserved by the OP.

To the OP, Thanks for your service. Don't jump into anything too quick. You've earned a bit of break. Take advantage of it, and plan carefully. I'd be willing to bet that in your career you've had to tackle a lot of really difficult tasks. Take the skills you've developed over your career and apply them to this in the same way. Just pretend that planning what you do from here on out is your next assignment.

The best thing is you're not a kid any more, and you can take the experience you've earned and decided what you want to be when you grow up.

Thanks for your dedication for serving our country, and along those lines I was wondering if you would still serve as a fireman or emt and train those who are there now helping the community. This of course after you take some time to go be with friends, traveling and get your self ready for a new adventure, wherever God leads you.

Congratulations and I truly appreciate your service!

Fishing sounds like a great idea :D

First order of business is to look for a second career. Hey Jeff, you and Mike hiring :D.

I still get my active duty pay until 1 Jan, so I have plenty of time before I have to start working, besides my wife is active duty too.

Even though the contest has ended, I think one of the first things I want to do is that 3 day survival challenge. I've survived in adverse conditions before, but never just with an altoids tin worth of stuff. What a way to end a career and prove that I still have what it takes to do it.

Anyway, no thanks necessary, but I appreciate it. It's been the greatest pleasure of my life to serve.

I'm not sure I'm qualified to be or teach firemen, but certainly am EMTs. One of the first things I may do is to go down and volunteer at our emergency operations center. That should help me transition to the civilian way of doing things.

Thanks for your dedicated service!

I've been in the Air Force DEP for about three months now. Waiting to ship out any day.

Best of luck in your career. It takes someone of great courage to volunatrily join in the state our military is in with the constant deployment model.

Do you know your career field yet?

Jim

Like everyone else, I wanna say Thank You for your service, take the up commin' time to reconnect with the world, family, friends and the simple life.

Volunteerin' goes a long way in helpin' with the transition, the main thing is relax and enjoy, you deserve it.
