Getting Waaay Nervous!

Congratulations and thanks for your service. My dad retired from the AF, he did 23 years, grandfather did 21.
Do you hold EMT or Paramedic certification? If you do, EMS agencies are always looking for people. I work with many retired military as a Paramedic.
Or as you said, check out your Counties' emergency management office.

I've got my Republic of Texas flag flown over Austin 11 Sep 09, a US flag flown over the Capitol on 11 Sep 09, and finally some of my past students had a US flag flown in a B1 Bomber on a mission in Afghanistan on 11 Sep 09.

As with most folks this day had a pretty big impact on my life and career. It really is an honor to have these flown the same day.

Jim

Congrats!

Hows about...???? Going hiking, the gym, learn a new language, a trip, bag a few good books, go to knob creek and buy toys, bag a cool volunteer spot, buy a convertible, a bike, see some great movies...ok I'm tapped for the moment! :)

Enjoy man!

Congratulations! My father retired after 20 in the Air Force also. Sometimes I get depressed when I think I'd be 3 years away from retirement if I'd stayed in the Marines but then I wouldn't have met my wife and everything would be different.
Best wishes!

Thank you for the service! Someday soon I hope to start my career in the Army or Air Force. What you've done so happily over the past 20 years of your life has not gone unappreciated by the bladeforums community! All the best in your future years!

M.E.

Well ... congratulations on the ultimate promotion, fellow Airman.:)

I'm living proof there IS life on the other side. It's a strange life, but it's OK.;)

Look me up if you're ever in the DC area and I'll buy you a beer and we can swap war stories.:D

In the meantime, here's wishing you the best in your next endeavour.

Well, Friday is my retirement ceremony from the Air Force. After 20 years it's here. I've been in since I was 17 and am not sure what I'm going to do Monday morning when I don't have to get up and put the uniform on. I've done a lot in my career. The two most rewarding, were being a First Sergeant and my current job of training medics on how to survive in a deployed environment and prepare them to respond to disasters/terrorist attacks.

It's been a great ride that's ready to come to an end. Not sure what the future will hold for me, but I wouldn't trade the last 20 years for anything.

Jim

I was in for a much shorter time than you, Sir, and it took me almost a year of adjusting to get back into the flow of civilian life. It's difficult but you'll get there. Come to Idaho, float a few rivers, climb a few 12,000 foot mountains, and sit in some hot springs!

Thank you four your service. It is more appreciated than any post could state.

Take a break! You have earned it! :)

THANKS!

Appreciate your service! Email me your mailing address, name and service dates and we will engrave an RC-3 for you and send it to you! Email it to jeff@ratcutlery.com

Well guys and gals, today's the big day! At 1530 I receive my retirement pin...

Jim

jhenri- Congrats on making it to 20 brother. You might want to seriously consider a GS job. You'd be surprised on what you will qualifiy for, especially anything to do with your career field. While I haven't served in the Air Force, I have met many that transition to GS posistions in the Army. While the benifits and pay are nice, the best part about GS is the fact that you still have an active role in serving your country. Also, as you said you were a 1SG, you get to do what you love best; taking care of troops without having to get up early and do PT in the cold! Another thing that is nice is the fact that you will be very comfortable in that job because you know your career field front to back not to mention the future training oppertunities.
Good luck!

This is a great milestone! Congratulations and thank you!

God Bless you and all of your future endeavors!

Thanks for ur dedicated service. you will have an adjustment to the civilian life. so just kick back put a line in the water and have a cold beverage. Your young enough for a second career and another retirement. enjoy the break and the new knife.

Congratulations jhendri2. 20 years is an excellent accomplishment, and serving as a diamond is something that few people understand--you've made a difference. Thanks for your service, hope you enjoy a well deserved retirement. Now go PT.
