Went out deer hunting after work and got a doe. What a perfect chance to test the new RAT Pack knife I thinks! It was raining tonite when I was cleaning the doe and it seemed the wetter it got, the more secure this knife felt in my hand. The belly and thin blade excelled in this task too, allowing me to cut seemlessly yet controlled. The small blade also performed great in the tight spot cutting around the butt. All in all, this knife did as well as I expected. I did notice I managed to roll the edge when I cut through the chest cavity, but as it was dark and raining, I didnt really care all that much.
Also learned a leason: my fenix flashlight ran out of batteries and I didnt have a spare AA. All of my spares were AAA and the LED light gave no warning that the battery was low: it just stopped working.

After I got home, I showed my kids the prize. I'm known in my neighborhood as that crazy redneck hunter so after a few minutes, all the neighborhood kids were out there intrested in the deer.

I showed my boy how to skin using the RC-3. He had a blast.

After reading some WSS threads, I wanted to save the brains for tanning so I cut the head off to preserve them until I get to that point. The RC-3 did well here cutting between the vertibrate, but I ended up finishing the last little bit with a hack saw for time.

me a pops are goin this weekend...but we are bucks only for the rest of the season....I have been trying to talk him into leaven the rifles home and go rabbit hunting instead....I like rabbit hunting better...get to look at more scenery and get a lot more exercise than sitting in a stand....plus a lot better odds of having fresh meat for supper......

The last picture of you holding the head is priceless.

Make that your Christmas card.

My hat's off to ya!
I love to see parents involve their kids in outdoor activities, and yes, it includes gutting game. : )
My boys, 5 and 11, love the outdoors as well, fishing and camping being their favorite. I just enjoy spending my time with them, and knowing that I'm the cool dad that takes them shooting, camping, and fishing. High end toys and electronics will never beat that!
Enjoy your kids, and that awesome looking knife.
