Gettn the RAT Pack knife bloody (Warning Bloody Pics)

Congrats on the doe and meat in the freezer! Great shots and happy to see the RC-3 did an admirable job dressing her out.

Well to be honest, Ive never done it, but I have read that you rub the brains onto the hide and soak them overnight. I've never been able to get a deer hide soft and pliable when it dries. Gonna try it again with this one.

I tried it once when i was 16 or so. got a deer skin, and soaked it in brains and water for a day, warmed it up to steep for a time at first. and then strung it out on a frame. dried up tougher than dog chew toys.

if you figure it out i would like to know the trick. :)

EDIT: not claiming my google-fu is better than anyone elses, but this link has some steps i don't recall ever being told before. But then again I had to go to a library to find stuff out when i was a kid.

Great to see you spend some quality time with your kids! Wish more dad's were like this.

old native saying goes something like-every animal has just enuf brains to tan its own hide.......

Great pics. That RC-3 makes a fine little skinner. Those kids are into it. At least they know where meat comes from now.

Congrats on the doe and thanks for the pics. I'm working on being the cool uncle to my nephews and take them with me on hikes. They are going to flip when I show them these pics. (My sister might flip, too... but for diff reasons.)
