GG&G problems solved yet?

E_wok,

I wouldn't necessarily NOT buy from Tadgear, there are just other dealers that I prefer to turn to first. I do know that Tad has its share of supporters. But I like to approach it as I would an Ebay auction--enough negatives and I have concerns. The places I remember reading about Tad came from Bladeforum and Candlepower forum.

As to what threads specifically influenced me....Sorry, I honestly don't attempt to remember threads in detail in order to recall them for reference later should there be an argument or discussion. Sometimes something will interest me enough to stick hard in my memory; posts about stropping and convex grinds are current examples. Other times things that aren't of much importance to me will be vaguely remembered because they recur often enough; Tadgear's negative standing with some members is an example of that.

I guess if I cared enough I could do a search. But I really don't care enough. You seem associated with Tadgear somehow? If so I can understand your fervor to clear your name, but it could also bias your thread searches. If anyone reading really cared enough about it, I guess they can do their own searches.

Edit to say this: Melvin's post came while I was writing my above post. As far as I'm concerned, what he says sounds good to me. I was writing of my reading experiences. Take that as you may.

i've dealt with TAD easily more than a dozen times. and every time im blown away by the service i've gotten. theres a few knife and supply stores that treat you like your family and this is one of them. they get my business first every time. but this is just me, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

about the TID, this is a great compliance device. alot of people see it as a koppo and it makes a great one at that. but you can also use this as a wonderful gripper to(kind of like pinching). if your in the protection field or just want a non-leathal tool, this is a great one. now just like anything else you cant just pick one up and say im protected. learn how to use it

Having had mostly good experiences with both, didn't there used to be a 1SKS sub-forum around here somewhere that was mostly full of people asking where their order was? Went looking but can't find it even in the archives.

Edited to say that that was back when Mike was running things. I haven't ordered from them in a while so maybe things are better than they were. Mostly it seemed to be incomplete orders (i.e. order form not fully filled out) or orders for stuff that was out of stock but customer was billed.

Deploy it how? For what? You can't stab with it. You can't slash with it. It's not sharpened, just pointy. The web site says that the "TID was developed to de-fang an opponent through the use of trapping and pressure-point-compliance techniques." Fine, but if you know how to apply these techniques, a kubotan or just the flashlight by itself would be sufficient. A proper compliance hold or come-along works through leverage. You don't need a point or an edge. I don't see how the pointy bits are going to change the situation.

Of course, the web site also says that the "TID adds sufficient heft to the front end of the flashlight to accelerate the forward momentum during the thrust stroke." Yeah, right. That extra 1 1/2 ounces on a six ounce flashlight is going to make a real difference in acceleration over the course of a two-foot thrust. And even if it did, what good would it do? You're going to thrust your Surefire at the bad guy and give him a nasty abrasion? After which he either cleans your clock or you clean his, in the traditional manner, without the pointy flashlight.

craigz, in all seriousness do you have any personal experience with this particular item or the various techniques with which it might be used?

Not so seriously,

Have you ever tried to light up a darkened room with your kubotan?

Have you ever had someone grind a TID all over the more sensitive parts of you anatomy?

Or pound it into your temple hammerfist?

Or drive it up under you chin "pointy side up"?

Thrust into your eye socket?

For you to simply write it off as useless and ineffective is silly ;)

Don't buy one! :D

I 'saw' the GG&G TID, I held the Surefire M2 with the TID attached, and I 'know' that this is one freaking wicked little gizmo...

Yes, the Surefire 'torch' will primarily be used to distract, and may even be used as a kubaton for 'pain compliance' needs...but, the fact is, a person can and should, turn that bright light into a weapon should the opportunity arise...

The TID 'will', jack someone up in a very nasty way IMNSHO. Yes, it will cut, scratch, and abrade, but more importantly it will seriously perforate flesh in a frontal attack mode. A quarter pound of sharpened 'jabbing' instrument (torch included) is not triffling, it's real.

Anyhoo, I saw it, I manipulated it, and I believe. What you decide to do, or purchase, is of no concern to me.

BOL, and stay safe.

Mel

i think the 'impact device' or whatever it is prob would work, w/training, on the end of a light like they show. work better than a kubotan/etc?? i dont know.

the silly thing, imho, is when i first read about it the designer said it was for 'law enforcement only' .............no civilian sales, then said a 'milder' version would sell to civvy's. which version is this that TAD/1SKS has, the LEO or original one, or the civvy version??

imho i have now heard it all, a LEO flashlight head. go figure......
