I was out of the shop for almost 3 months while healing from a back injury. As if shows and over a year and a half of backlogged requests aren't enough, add the fact that we are selling our house looking to move 3 Provinces away from our families.... AND my wife just lost her job, monday, due to cut-backs(this was expected, but it still hurts). Now, I am forced to cancel my shows for this year and juggle between orders, moving shop, selling a house, being a working musician, puting food on the table, not re-injuring my back and .... did I say filling orders?

Gharrrrr.... SERENITY NOW!

Anyway... we still have our family and our health. We just need to work smarter, live lighter, stay positive and keep moving. Evolve or give in.... I am not one to give in.

No Blade this year? That's disappointing. I was looking forward to having another beer with you. Sorry to hear about your situation. Hopefully this stuff gets sorted soon.

Whine, whine, whine...

You've got it easy bud!

Hey! You're the guy that wanted to be a knifemaker! ;) LOL

Count your blessings Wolfy... and never let your old lady see you sweat.

Try doing it all for 30+ years.

Nova Scotia.

Lotsa cheap lobster there at least.:)
My wife was originally from out there, and the food is the only thing she misses about it. Makes our seafood restaurants seem like crap, so take advantage of it.

Yeah... I do have it easy compared to some of the tough times I see good folks going through, right now. It is just stressful for us because everything is changing at the same time. But you're right, I should be thankful that I HAVE options at all.

Thanks

Wake up everyday and keep fighting.

I completely feel your pain, brother. I was VP of Construction for a company in Vegas and had an opportunity to move up here to Washington and start a new division. I was making just over $200,000 a year before bonuses. This construction recession has totally knocked my dick in the dirt. I've lost everything to this point. My savings is gone trying to save a house that I should have just walked away from to begin with. Now I'm literally checking my bank account online hourly to see if my Paypal transfer has shown up so I can put gas in the truck and go buy food. At the end of the day though, just like you, my wife and son are healthy and we're all still together.

I didn't type that to try and upstage your current state. I actually just wanted to share that you're not alone, my friend. My perspective is totally different and I appreciate much more than I ever have. Your silver lining will show itself.

I feel your pain as well. The machine shop I worked for for 10 years refused to give a raise last year so we could cover child care costs. I ended up leaving them because I was not working fifty hour weeks just to pay for day care. Now with another baby due in August and my wife the only one with a job we are really feeling the cutbacks. I only wish I could sell a few more knives to help make up the difference.

Good fortune to all
Chris

I think that’s one of the things a lot of folks don’t get about this business,… you really have to be psychologically and emotionally tough, AND, determined in order to make it. It’s very challenging Wolfy and the rest of y'all. Good for you for giving it a go.

You've got some guts and a great pair of balls! I admire that, in manly way of course.

You’ll always just have to “cowboy up“…. That part never changes...

Rick - this is just a bump in the road, errr well maybe a big pot hole that knocked a tire off and put your vehicle in the ditch, but hang in there buddy and you'll get throught it!
One day at a time.....

Nova Scotia? Do they have electric there?

You're a survivor, which will serve you well in that wasteland  :)

I saw a design for a gerbil driven VSD grinder on E-bay. I can post you a link.

Living in Nova Scotia will give real credence to Hand made.

Do people live in igloos there?

That's all the one liners I have, Tai beat me on a couple.

You will get on top of this; just stick close to the folks you love and good things will happen.

Fred

Serenity now, insanity later!

I have had a similar past year full of major life changes and challenges. You have to just take it day by day and before you know it everything will all be well again.

Rick,

I didn't know you were a musician. Do you have any recordings we can check out?

Musician??? Do tell, or brag, or something!
Ha! I am a drummer. Mostly jazz, these days. No time for a steady band but I fill in around the Windsor and Detroit scene.

I was in one band that did well in Europe for a short while. We went on tour and shot 4 videos. The name was "Eye Of Charm" and had kind of a Smashing Pumpkins thing going on. We were nominated for Best Canadian Aboriginal Rock Album in 2007. It was a really cool experience.
