I have always wanted to do one of these and couldn't wait until I set up my new shop. Here it is as it is right now. Oscar Madison's(me) own knief making shop. The pics are not in any order just pics really and never mind the one of me mugging away. I will post pics come Summer of the new and improved, organized shop. I should have another grinder by then and a few other toys. Peace.....Rich

what brand dust collector is that ? do you run it while grinding steel or just scale material ?

thanks.

Coool, thanks for sharing. :D But it looks like you got a little to close to the grinder with your head. HEHEHE!!!! :D

Indian George, the Bader 3 is my personal Barber as well as knife grinder ;) 45guy, it's one from Homier distributing. It was only $80.!!!! 1 1/2 Hp and worth every penny. Sure there are better ones but as you can see, I ain't much for collecting dust as I am for letting get everywhere...LOL I have used it for steel and for drilling and especially for G10 and micarta grinding. Thanks guys...Rich :D

IG, you are fearless, picking on a tough lookin' guy from Brooklyn! RDT, you got a working shop, and one to be proud of. I see you have met our favorite rascal, IG. Welcome to the gang, too.

do use the band saw for metal or just handle material? i have a larger delta that I hate, but am planning on trying to make work for some blade material, I need to slow it down though.
not a bad looking shop though, better than mine :)

Just handle material. It sucks for metal. It's is only marginal for handle materials as well. I do need a Metal cutting band saw and that in one of the additions I mentioned. Hopefully by August maybe July. Also a Variable speed grinder either Bader or KMG? I use a KMG Platen and work rest for flat grinding now and it's awesome! Thanks bro....Rich

Nice pics! I love seeing shop pics. One of these days I gotta shoot me some. Where did you get the tumbler and what do you use it for?

The Tumbler is new. Got it on ebay for just $99. NIB! It will be for smaller blade finishes. I like that tumbled look. It makes for a good working finish, nothing fancy. The Bowl if I rem, ember correctly is 13" diameter. it runs nice and quitely too. Take care....R

Rich, you have your own little Igor! That's awesome!

Oh, wait... is that you? D'oh! My bad... sorry about that! ;) :p

Cool set-up, you have there. Sweet knives too! Thanks for posting the pics.

Cooks, RDT - regarding your bandsaws, you could try what I did - slap on a variable speed motor and run it nice and slow for metal. You can get 93" bimetal Lennox blades for the Delta 14" from K&G here

The cool thing about the Delta 14" or similar upright bandsaws is that you've got a nice sturdy table you can lay your work on and even set up a fence if you're so inclined.

Here's a pic of my setup -

Cool. Always like to see other folks set ups. Your kerambits look like pretty daggone serious tools there!
BTW, what media are you using in the tumbler?
(Wulf---ROTFLMAO!!!)

JohnPatrick,
Thanks a lot bud. I actually just got it not too long ago and haven't used it yet. But I was thinking ceramic pyramids at a medium and then fine grit but am also unsure of what compund to use. I heard something about Chemtrol? Know of it??

Its a nice shop, there are some pieces you have that I have to build my own (no it is not obligation, just make-your-self sickness :D ), i.e. dust-collector, sand booth...

These shop tours make me think how determined we are: gathering equipment, try to make a neat working space out of mess...

Have fun and thanks,

Best wishes

Dude, that looks like a sweet shop. I still have a ton of tools that I'd like to have, not to mention a permanent place to keep them.

Again, one of these days, I'll get my pictures developed and show y'all what my shop and knives look like. The shop looks an awful lot like a living room and a front yard...

Seeing shops is my favorite thing on the forums. I wish there were books and books of shops. I get more inspiration and fun out of this forum then a magazine. My internet service is paid for with money I would have put into magazines. When I do come into the forum I always get my interest amped up for going into the shop.

Those photos showing machines mounted sideways and at angles make me a little seasick.

How do you keep that grinder from slipping off the refrigerator??? :D  ;) ;)
