Many of the lower grade models, the "tourist" blades, are not sharpened in any sense of the word. Like cheap hardware store axes, the bevels don't often even fully meet. As well, some times they can't be sharpened properly as the steel quality is low, full of inclusions and the like, heat treatment is off, etc. . In general you can get some ideads about design, but you have to be very careful not to be influenced by the materials influence. It looks like you have a solid handle on it.
That is a fairly astute observation.

In general you can get some ideads about design, but you have to be very careful not to be influenced by the materials influence. It looks like you have a solid handle on it.
Moreover the weight is centered lower to the handle--a full tang, so that more effort is needed to move the blade, the whole arm must be used to utilize the mass of the knife, whereas with the smaller blade, weight is centered out near the bend of the blade and wrist action helps with creating velocity for impact.
