When this is over the collector's market is going to be flooded with Khyber knives and Yatagans. It looks like the Gurkhas will be collecting many combat trophies.

I've been wondering what the Taliban would think of a little "chat" with some gorkhas.;) I know who my money's on.:D

Those khukuris are kind of interesting, too. They aren't the normal SN1 type, they have a closed 'eye of the dove' cho. Kind of looked like they were all chainpuris maybe? I wonder if anybody else can shed some light on them.

GREAT PIX!!!!! It is very neat to see that after centurys of war the Khukuri is still going strong!!!! Without a dout the Khukuri is the most mighty knife under the sun! I hope the Gurkhas kill many of those bas#*@# slowly with their Khukuris!

The Gorkhas are certainly the perfect choice for fighting at altitudes such as one finds in the Hindu Kush. Hope the Gorkhas aren't too superstitious these days, what a place for a Hindu soldier to have to fight!
One must give the Afghania warriors credit, they are a tough and hearty lot acclimatized to a harsh and unforgiving enviroment. Also, like the Gorkhas, proud and fearless. As a hillbilly kid growing up I used to cheer them on in their war against Soviet occupation. If not for the Taliban and it's ruthless and corrupt leaders I would gladly recognize them as kin, just as I do the kamis of Biogorkha. Damn shame.

I am with pmcelrath on this one. I think the Gurkas are the best for agains the Afghans, but I too grew up cheering them against the Soviet Union. It will be an ugly fight. Those pics are sure great, Bouy. I notice your in Valley Forge, I am only a crows flight away in West Chester, we should link up and talk khukuries some day soon.

It could be a coming payback time from a number of perspectives.

I, too, have in the past held the Afghan warriors in high esteem and it is my hope that the true warriors fight on the right side.

You know that khukuri in the top pix with the pariwa ki aka cho has a profile almost exactly like the Gelbu Special and although I can't tell for sure it also looks like the blade might be slightly fullered. Gelbu tells me he does sell a few khukuris locally so who knows.

I don't know how many will recall this but Pala, an old Assam Rifles vet, said if he were going into combat the Gelbu Special would be his choice.

The other khukuris I see don't seem to be the British Army Service model, either. It's as has often been said, when the chips are down the Gorkhas will select whatever tools they think will serve them best.

to see Gorkha elements of the Indian army join their brothers, but I don't see it happening - Our earliest agreement with the Pakistani Govt. included their insistance that India not be included in the fray. Even if the Gorkha elements entered through another country, the situation in Pakistan is so tender that it might upset the entire apple cart. Just the single platoon mentioned should be enough to keep a knowledgeable commander awake (WIDE awake) for the next several weeks HEHEheheh

Wal,
I don't trust the Pakis. they ,I feel, are in with the BG's! I would take India & the G's over the Pakis. Think the India G's would like to go play with the Pakis??

...would love to get into this lash-up, and I would love to see them have the opportunity. As I said, the only drawback is our original agreement with the Pakis, that India would not be allowed. Pakistan's General-President has to be on the fence, with a large number of his constituants on the side of the Taliban, and his intelligence service completely on their side (someone had to be getting all that opium across the border, and intelligence services seem to have a propensity for becoming involved with that crap). It is obvious that the entire Paki effort is geared to what they can hope to gain from whichever side they eventually fall on. Trust, under these conditions, equates to "buyer beware".

India and Pakistan have been at each other since the world began, I think, and I'm wondering what would happen if you try to put them together fighting on the same side when they have always fought each other. I fear there may be some dissension in the ranks.

Just saw on the ABC News a story on American and British forces doing training exercises. There was brief footage of a Gorkha hitting the dirt (I noticed the handle of his khukuri on his gear).

I sent the pix link to Gelbu and asked him if that guy in the top pix had been by BirGorkha to get a khukuri. I do know that Pala and Gelbu sometimes sell (or give to pals) khukuris locally.
