What do you think about taking the standard GI Stainless Cross and turning into a functional tool as well.

Once the two I bought come in, since I don't have the tools to make them with ease, I will have to take a common metal file and work it into the above shape. What do you think?

Thanks,

Ryan

I'm Jewish but, to me, it seems fairly sacrelidgeous. Why not wear a small SAK around your neck; it bears a cross (Swiss cross) and has small tools, too?

I'm Christian and I don't find it sacrelidgeous. In fact, I kind of like the double-entendre.

On a practical note, I do think you'll have a problem in that the metal won't be hardened to be usable as a tool.

Might be able to get peter a. to make me something. ;)

I am a pretty faithfilled person, so the meaning is there for me without any sacrelig.

Well then, may it serve you well, both in your tasks as well as in your soul.

For me it no longer looks like a crucifix. I looks like a waymarker on the coastal path we have in the UK. Your says 'Talland Bay 3 miles' to the left, and 'ice cream at the beach cafe' on the right.

I'm Christian, Catholic specifically, and it's not sacrilegious. It's kind of cool. Looks handy, too.

Beautifully said, Untamed.

IMO there is nothing sacreligious about using the symbol of your Christian faith in such a way.

You could do a lot worse than have that saying as an inscription on a soldier's blade, as well.

Since I don't have the right tools ... I just sharpened the one end like a screwdriver. Works like a champ. The cross is stainless steel made for the military, so it can be torqued pretty well, no bending.

While many Christians use the cross as a symbol and wear it as part of their faith, some Christians do not and even ask "If Christ had been stabbed would you wear a knife around your neck?" Clearly that question is contentious and probably offends some cross-wearing Christians. But here I can safely say the response would have to be "Why would I need to wear another knife around my neck?"

Hi All-

I'd rather just have the unmodified crucifix around my neck as a sign of my faith and a decent folder, multi-tool, and fixed blade at my disposal.

Yeah, I suppose then that I would. That is an interesting question.

My cross, by the way, is Damascus steel hand-made by Audra Draper. I like it very much.

To all that I offended with my mod, I apologize.

I often wear a knife around my neck, and I don't mean a functional neck knife. I have a LifeKnife made by Jot Singh Khalsa, and it is something of a symbol of a symbol, an analog of the Sikh kirpan, which is the knife they wear as a symbol of their faith.

The world has seen stranger objects of devotion. While I would not blend a religious symbol with a utilitarian purpose, I think that's a legitimate choice of the wearer. I wonder, though, since Jesus is said to have been a carpenter, if a saw or an axe might not be more appropriate. :)
