Giant anticipation for the Pygmy.

Yeah, like I said, I'll get one, too, if they're not too expensive. What utility work do you expect to be able to do with it? :)
John

The sawteeth on the back might work for wire stripping LOL. Of course the wire stripper on my leatherman is much better. I don't think I would ever carry a pygmy I just think it is an interesting design. My last martial arts class was 15 years ago and the weapon I chose to train in was the "Bo" or quarter staff so I should buy a nice walking stick not a pygmy warrior.

1 1/8" canvas micarta works really well for bo and jo, 1" for hanbo. Should you get one, start out slowly. The micarta is about 3x as heavy as hardwood.

Yeah, I wondered if you envisioned wire stripping with the Pygmy. :)

Does anybody sell round micarta? Where do you get the material for a bo/jo out for micarta. I googled around a bit and nothing jumped out.

I don't want to hijack the thread further. JRShirley(at)gmail.com...email sent.

Yeah, let's get back on topic. Of course it can be used for utility, a knife is a knife. I just wonder how well those saw teeth cut. I know they're for trapping not cutting, but still the regular spyderedge seems maybe a little more versatile. Either way, I can't wait to get a hold of one. It's a very interesting model.

(had to post a big fat picture):

I do hope it's not too expensive. It looks so bad a$$. ETA?

Would be really cool to know, but I respect Spydercos policy of not promising any release dates. On some dealer sites, it says "expected july 2012", but I don't know for sure how accurate that is.

I'm not getting any younger here, I hope it's soon :), I do use one of my Al Mar Warrior knives as a beater and it is a surprisingly good field knife imo, I find the saw teeth rip timber up into feathers in no time flat in prep for a fire.

Spyderco Warrior is nice evolution of the AMK Warrior and the REKAT models. Agree on the sheath replacement but that's what the secondary/accessory market is all about. Pigmy Warrior looks very interesting and again, I agree, likely as not purchased for collection which is fine, of course. The decapitation thing is kinda way out there ... maybe someone got carried away with that one. Spyderco's Mike Janich offers in online video at an industry show the Spyder serration was incorporated to give the knife more utility applications (like cutting rope, cords, stuff like that I suppose). Decapitation...??? Weird.

Bottom Line and Up Front regarding anything but battle field carry -

The entire Warrior knife design is a "carry it - use it - have to explain it" kinda knife in the civilian world (i.e. here in the US). You just aren't going to win that one upon initial contact with a street cop in most cases, and it'll be way tough in front of a judge with a fire breathing DA looking to hang your butt should it have been your "self protection knife of choice". Just the way it is - and nothing about it was ever "utility minded" when Randy Wanner envisioned the blade concept so many years ago now.

I love the shape.

It is MUCH nicer than spyderco Warrior - which is ugly and don't have the style of the old warrior.

Neverthereless - I would love to see CUTTING serrations on top of the knife. Cuz I don't expect to do much SD trapping with a knife... nor SD cutting. And concave serrated edge - I would find an use for that.

Does anyone know if the pygmy comes in satin finish?

I don't even know what I am going to do with this knife, but I want one.

I do not agree.

I definitely agree.

One potential problem with that though is that from looking at the pictures, it seems there is not so much room for a proper edge bevel on the top of the blade, thus making it a bit harder to make a proper serrated edge. In order to remedy that, one would have to either reduce the height of the main edge bevel, leaving more room for the top one, or simply make a wider blade. I'm not in any way an expert though and I'm sure Spyderco will find the best way to go. I want one of these things no matter the edge configurations.
