A mate took this shot last night. At a guess the hand is approx 30cm (1 foot) behind the spider. I guess the spider's legs would be approx 8" to 10" span.

We get many around at our place too, but this looks to be the largest one I've seen. I went through one's web once whilst mowing the lawn and it crawled around on my head and gave me a nip on the back of my neck. Apparently they have a potent venom, but luckily it didn't affect me.

No wonder you Aussies EDC MOABOLO's...

You need all the reach you can muster against that 8-legged freak...

BTW, I have an idea for your next film...;)

But I must say the web is quite handsome!

One more thing that scares the crap out of me on your island Rob.

Yikes!!!!

Good task for a 13asic 13rush clearing tool. ;) The spider's shadow, caused by the flash, doesn't enlarge much if at all, so the overlay on the hand is impressive even though the hand's shadow offset is about 10% of the size. This reminds of me of the camel spider pics from Iraq. :D Can we get a pic of it with your MOAB just this side of the web, that would be awesome! ;)

Ok. Now you need to carry a shotgun while mowing.

That's just ... Prehistoric? Jurassic?

Right, lace your 1311 with petrol, followed by striking a match. Ignite the said petrol applied on the 1311 and swing at that Lord of the Ring style beast. Please post pics of the carnage so we would sleep sound at night knowing that its gone.

Ours are a nice black and yellow .One early morning I was driving east on I 84 The conditions were perfect. Webs with lots of dew , backlite by the rising sun, and webs perhaps every where. At highway speed you could see them, endless along the grass covered shoulder. Never ending no one could count them .I must have seen thousands when I finally stopped looking.
