GiantMouse GM8/GMP8

Got mine in today too. Very happy with it so far. Fit and finish are all on point and the detent is good, which has been hit and miss on the Italy produced GM's for me, so that was good.

The milling is truly excellent. This is definitely up there with the GM5 as far as quality and finishing goes. Factory edge is much better than I had expected it to be be as well.

Managed to snag a GM8 after doing the refresh thing on the GM Line page for a GPM8 for about 1.5 min. Disappointed I had to settle for second choice but feel luck that I even got one of the two. This is by far (next to the GM5) the most appealing looking GM knife I’ve seen. I’ve had a few and sold all of them. I really want to keep one but haven’t found her yet. Mine arrives tomorrow 🤞🏼

I think a bunch of people were making that comparison - titanium frame lock flipper version of the Crooked River.

Man... the titanium milling is so gorgeous. I can't wait for mine to get out of the awful purgatory of the California USPS shipping centers.

Yours too? Mine just says in transit arriving on time. The last actual update was Friday

Mine was in Burlingame, CA, for two days, but arrived in my city around 6 p.m. local, which usually means it's in time for delivery tomorrow.

Mine made it from CA to OH in 5 days with basic first class. Just chose whatever was preselected for shipping because I was afraid to not snag one

I have always found GM knives to be beautiful and finished well but also the Voxnaes ones seem to be thick behind the edge a lot.
Anyone know if the will do another run of the micarta version?
GiantMouse has several product lines. The Giant Mouse ones are made in a limited quantity of 300, with an additional 100 in the 'Pirate' configuration that is usually in a darker aesthetic and perhaps has a few more aesthetic features, like the micarta inlay on the GMP8.

But after they do that run, they never release those knives again.

However, their ACE line models are larger and continuous production and tend to come from the most popular of the GM lines.

So their model is basically to have a sprint run of a high-end version, and then if that design ends up being very popular, they may do the same or a similar design in the ACE line. Both the ACE Grand and the ACE Sonoma are versions of previous GM limited knives.

Unfortunately with the main line of limited production Giant Mouse knives, they only make so many and that's it. I didn't even try buying this one because of that. The best we can hope for is that they might adapt a version of this into their unlimited procuction Ace line, like they have done with other models. Ultimately I'd love to see a Micarta linerlock version of this one in the Ace line.

Ah ok, well that sucks. I'll cross that one off my Christmas list then.
With the response to the GM8, I wouldn't be surprised if we see an ACE GM8 in the next year or so, so maybe not this Christmas list, but next year's, and for half the price.

Arrived today! They're really gorgeous. Slender in all dimensions, machining is wonderful, especially the texturing on the handles. Action is... serviceable, but I've had better Hinderers and the Vehement Mongrels pictured and the Koenig Arius are way ahead. Glad that the exceedingly stiff lock issue some are reporting does not seem to have affected mine.

Did some cutting on some cardboard with my GM8 today, and I gotta say I'm definitely impressed with this one. On all my other GMs I've been happy with the primary grind geometry, but they all needed a new secondary bevel out of the box. This one is definitely the best I've had. Thinness behind the edge and the secondary bevel seem right on par with a PM2 to me, except with not quite as thick of stock. Very good slicer.

This makes so much sense from a business perspective. Makes me less angry at sprint runs and limited editions lol thank you for the write-up
