It was a beautiful day here in central Ohio so I took a good and dear friend of mine out to a local park for a picnic after work. One thing that makes her unique among my female friends is that she already owned a couple of folders before she met me. Of course I've upgraded her cutlery but because until recently I was always carrying a one hand opening knife with a clip and that's what she already had, I basically just gifted her with better knives than she had. Well today at our picnic one of the plastic bags needed opened so I pulled out my Case Peanut to cut the bag. She immediately said, "That's cute". After we were finished eating we took a nice little walk on the trails and started talking. She's about to move away to go to college and we discussed how she might not be able to carry any of her bigger clipped knives on campus. So I pulled my Peanut out again and showed it to her. She really took a liking to it. She liked how it just disappeared in her pocket. I've been considering putting together a care package for her before she goes, so as part of that and since red is her favorite color, tonight I ordered her a "Case Peanut,Pocket Worn® Old Red Bone" and had it engraved with her name.
I showed her several pocket knives and it was the Peanut she said she liked the best and kept handling the most. Since the main blade will likely be used the most I had her name engraved on the pen blade so it won't get all scratched up from use.
I think she'll like it a lot.

Just had to share. :)

I know I had them put the engraving on the pen blade because it likely won't be used as much saving it from getting scratched up but looking at the pen blade on my own peanut I'm wondering how it's going to look. I hope it looks good and I don't regret not having it put on the main blade.
I'll post a pic when it comes in.

Nicely done sir. I gift that will be used and cherished for sure.

Well it arrived today. It's a nice knife. The bone isn't as red as I expected and the engraving is really tiny, but nicely done. It will do.

Opinions?

What a great gift. Well done.

Very nice!
So you guys are in Columbus or near it?
I live in Columbus.. and my name is the same as hers! Lol.

A beautiful gift, I think she'll love it.

I hope she does.
I live east of Columbus and work in Westerville. She lives in Columbus right now, but is getting ready to move to Cleveland to go to school. Nice to know there's another knife aficionado in Columbus. Especially an apparent Spyderco fan. :)

You need to take a short drive north and have RichardJ put an edge on it before you give it to her.:D

That really is a good looking knife. The red may not be perfect but that's not always a bad thing. She won't be scared to carry it and use it now.

Not sure who RichardJ is, I do pretty good at putting an edge on a knife. No worries about that. :)
She likes knives and has carried one for years, but unlike some of us, she isn't a collector. It's just a tool to her, so she will carry it without fear. It may or may not end up having some sentimental value to her but I doubt that would stop her from carrying and using it.

Awesome gift.
The cult of the peanut is going to love this, your doing great things here.

Congrats on a great friendship and thanks for being one of the good guys.

I was in a little bit of a hurry the other day when I posted the pic. So I figured I'd take some more pics that show the whole knife and the scales.

Great gift, Paradiggum. Since she won't be expecting it at all, I anticipate its being perfect for her-- especially since it's nice looking in its own way, and she'll put it right to use.

That said, I remain disappointed in the the wildly uneven results of Case's dye jobs. I wonder if they don't care, or assume no one else will...?

I was a little disappointed myself. Especially since the stock pic showed it more even and a darker red. She has a distaste for pink and on the edges it skirts being almost pink.
I actually got her a whole "care package". The peanut, an ASP, some Sabre pepper spray, a Victorinox Swisscard and a red tactical ink pen.

Since she basically just found out she was accepted, this is kind of a whirlwind move and very short notice. She's pretty hard to pin down at the moment. I'll report back her reaction when she gets it.
Hopefully it means as much to her as it means for me to give it. I have a few knives given or passed down that have great value to me. But I'm kind of sentimental that way.
