Gift for Nephew

I think he find find a peanut a little difficult to open:) I got my first SAK around that age, they are tough and easy to maintain! If you want something easy to open and close I would look at the buck lock back knives.

Yep. My peanut is GREAT. But it's really too snappy for little fingers.

I'd look at a different model Case (maybe, as ChrisCorliss suggested, a Mini Copperlock), or a SAK ...... or maybe a nice Buck 55.

End of the day I am going with the CF Sod Buster + sharaprmaker. I will put initial edge on for him, and hopefully teach about sharpening.

Or should I look at custom options? Probably a bit of insanity on my part.

A buck 55 would be a great option if you went with a lockback. Very easy to manipulate with small hands and not undersized.

For a slip joint, Buck 303 would be great. Stainless steel, easy springs and tough construction. Inexpensive too. The steel gts sharp, sharpens easily, is quite tough and corrosion resistant.

I started out with a SAK. I loved having the extra tools for taking things apart and making spears and bows.

Get something tough, replaceable but quality. Something that can be used to pry open a rotten log, thrown and stuck into the ground, trima swinging rope, cut up an apple off the tree and be hosed off at the end of the day.

We are knife knuts. We obsess over edges, fit and materials. For boys, at least when I was a boy, a knife was another tool to help me out on my adventures. Something that I was to take care of, yes, but something that allowed me even more freedom.

Went a bit nutty and ordered a Buck custom shop 505 with stag scales, and his name engraved as well. I am was late in ordering so he will have to live with just the CF Sod Buster for a bit.

If they are lost so be it, at least he will have some good knives for a bit.
