Gift from father for 2/13

Well iffen your bedraggled missing the Yek I'd be plumb happy letting you have it. I got one I was checking out a bit earlier and it's fine. Just pondering duplicate.
It might like to live with Bookie more than Bawanna.

You still playing Nanook of the North down yonder in Corn Patch.

Gotta admit the yek be a draw fer me, but you latch on to it, Bawanna. My turn is coming. Been snowing for the last 12 hours. Add that on top of what we already had (and it's not to quit until about 8 tonight) if I was to drop that yek, I'd never see it again until green up come next July!

Well I don't got a done deal on it yet myself. So might be a moot point.
We just got dug out yesterday, supposed to start all over again Tuesday or Wednesday.
Don't mind, I like staying home anyhow.

This is an unusually light weight. 16.5" is the most common length for an AK, and they usually weigh around 31 oz. A 9 oz difference is huge.

Either the fullers are very deep, or the AK is thinner than usual, or the 22 oz is a typo. :)

Please let us know when you get the blade.

Just received it, and it's beautiful. It has significant fullers, but I think the main weight savings comes from having a blade that's not as wide - the narrow section is narrower than some of my other kuks, and the wide section is not as wide. The pictures did not do it justice; it's a great looking blade.

If you find the handle a bit slippery, you can take some sandpaper and just knock off the shine, that helps considerable.
Another option still open is send it to me and I'll checker it for you. Send 20 bucks to Yangdu and enough for me to ship it back, if you feel like it and I'll do it up.

Despite the snow and mail being weeks behind, I received the Thamar Yek Chirra today as usual in 2 days. Yangdu has some magical power over the USPS me thinks.
The thing is beautiful like everything Thamar does. It's near shaving sharp not that I will attempt to do so any time soon.
It's a bit nicer, a tad heavier and an inch longer than the one I currently have so I've decided to make the first one the user and admire this new addition for awhile although it's tempting to go chop which I'm sure is the kami's wish.
The handle is a bit larger than my first one so one more reason to use the first although it's not issue for me to reduce the handle a bit if I ever need to .

Some proof photos.
The new 18'' 26 oz on top and the 17" 22 oz below.

Same shot different angle.

And the proud spot where it will hang below the other two Chirra's I have from Thamar.
Below is the Hanshee Ndog sent me some years back, quite a knife that one too.

I neglected to get a shot of the sheath but it's well done, I did get two chakma's instead of a Karda and a Chakma but that worries me not in the least, I have lots of both so non issue.
The frog is a bit heavier leather than usual, which is quite nice, although a full time sitting person doesn't get much opportunity to where a cool khuk from the belt.
I'm thinking I might do some sweet talking to Pugs and have him make me another set up kind of like he did for my KLVUK. Couple loops and a camera strap and I'm in business, kind of a take off on the Baldric concept I guess.

I would make the 17"er my user and display that 18"er too. I love that "S" curve of the edge on the 18"er. Thamar makes some real works of art.

Let us know what you think of that little bowie when you get it.

If it is anything like the gentlemans belt knife i just received he will love it!
I had one of those and I miss it. I gave it to a friend's son who is in scouts. I remember being so impressed with the fit and finish. Pretty little bugger. Razor sharp too. Maybe I'll get me another one someday. You should post a picture so I can lust after it.

Only downside is its not that sharp yet. Need to go after it with my wetstone

Pala 1.jpg Well now I'm consternated again, it occurred to me that my 17" Yek is the knife in this photo.
I had Yangdu get a picture of Kami Sherpa holding it before she sent it.
All the more reason to use it or all the more reason to keep it in a special place.
Have to ponder this a might.

That would have to be a collectors piece in my book with that photo right by it! A true warrior holding a piece of history!
I love the photo Ms Yangdu!

What I would do is frame the picture (maybe crop a bit off the sides, since you don't really need to show all that fencing), and hang the picture on the wall with the actual knife under it at about the same angle as in the picture.

I totally agree David!

Did one better than that. Mr. Yip Choy did a portrait based on that photo and sent it to Yangdu, it's proudly displayed in a place of honor. Look in the far background and I captured it with my wife chatting with Pemba in the foreground. I need to contact him, I'd like to purchase a copy to hang here as you suggested.

He also did one of me based on a photo of me sitting in Yangdu's garage for knife show and tell. Took me a while to figure out how he got me so good, in fact I think he had to tell me.
Not as handsome as Kami Sherpa but he did a fine job.

All that talent is almost hard to believe. Beautiful art, great picture, awesome knife. Kami Sherpa really has that "better to die than live a coward" look in his eyes. Sometimes this forum puts a smile on my face when not much else will. Thanks for the post.
