So, out of the blue my bro-in-law sent me a 15016-1 HIDDEN CANYON HUNTER.

a few years ago, he sent me a Becker BK2 which was the knife that brought me here. I must say that I'm very lucky to have such a generous brother-in-law.

What are the knives you've received as gifts?

My brother gave me this 950 rift a few Christmases ago, it was my first nice knife and the nicest gift I ever received

Hinderer Investegator, early Father's Day gift from my 3 year old.

These were all gifted to me over the years from non-family members:

From VCM3 here on BF. For my big brother.

From Hummpa here on BF. It quickly became my favorite and go-to/most oft carried fixed blade.

From old Army buddies in Iraq (I've since given away the Emerson, Gerber, and three Benchmades). The gifts (big and small) among/between us just flew back adn forth in those days:

From my now dead best friend. These go to my son as does his 1971 Rolex Oyster he bought himself upon graduating from Loyola in 1973.

From the then CBS Rome Bureau Chief, an old combat photographer of the Vietnam War. He gave it to me on a Search and Recovery operation in 1992 in Cambodia where we recovered the remains of four of his compatriots captured and murdered in 1970. This too goes to my son.

My parents went on a European tour about two years ago and brought me back a very handsome M. Nieto folder with, I think, olive wood inlays. It's the smoothest backlock I've ever handled and I use it as my designated dress knife if I'm wearing a suit.

My family knows I'm into knives, and I have an Amazon wishlist that they look at every year, so I've gotten a bunch of knives as gifts. This list is by no means complete but these are all ones I got as gifts:

Cold Steel Voyager XL Tanto and Vaquero, Canadian Belt Knife, Hide Out, OSS, Sax Machete
Condor Golok
Aranyik Toong Northerner Pra
CRKT Halfachance
Ka-bar Heavy Bowie
Several Rough Rider traditionals

A Frost brand KKK slipjoint. The guy who gave it to me said I'd appreciate it since my sense of humor goes to anything that is offensive. Surprisingly good walk/talk for stamped brass liners/bolsters. Needless to say I never carry it. Authentic KKK stuff is quite valuable.

I havent asked people permission to tell this story so I have to be vague. Long story short I was discussing with a group of people about wanting to get a present for a relative of mine. Within 2 days of that discussion the knife showed up on my door free of charge. Brought a tear to my eye as I was the last person to deserve such a gesture. It reminds me to try and be a better person. Note I said "try" I dont always succeed.

upload img[/IMG]My brother found a Cuda Maxx 5.5 on some "dead freight" at a warehouse owned by a family friend. He knew I liked big knives and got it for me as a kind of "white elephant" gift. I didn't know what it was at first but instantly took note of the quality. D2 steel, perfectly centered blade, solid frame lock...I did a little research and learned the model discontinued long before my brother picked it up. He had no idea what a treasure he found for $15.

A couple months ago, my dad bought me a Cold Steel Assegai. Even though it's not exactly my style, he had a pretty good reason - he wanted us to have a matching set of them.

Benchmade 940-1. On a trip to Santa Fe with my folks, I casually mentioned my interest in this knife. It was around Christmas but I expected nothing since the only knife shop we could find was selling it at full retail ($315). I urged my mother not to buy it at this price or at any other price above $260. The following evening, I found a box containing a brand new 940-1 on my pillow. Mom had ignored my advice.
Now it's my go-to EDC. I'm so fortunate.

I received this knife today from my grandfather on what is likely to be the last fathers day I will be able to spend with him.

I've been gifted a tojiro sujihiki, while a nice knife, it's stainless. I gifted to a coworker who had cheap knives.

I won a silent Xmas drawing in 14' from Dennis, a very nice guy, who buys a lot of Alan Davis knives. I had my choice of 4 very nice knives. 1 of the choices was

a small Alan Davis custom with a damascus blade and mammoth bark ivory. I carry it sometimes. It's a very nice knife.

Which river in Mi do you live? I grew up near the Looking Glass and Grand rivers.
