I just received my first two Gigand knives as I was leaving for work this morning. I bought them without ever seeing one in person based on comments I've read on this forum. All I can say is WOW! I got a gold Spectrum and a black and green Adventuer. Fit and finish is superb. They were hair poping sharp right out of the box. The action is smooth and silky, although I might loosen up the blade tension on the adventurer with the tool they so thoughtfully included so I can open it easier lefthanded (I'm a lefty). I don't think I'll have to do that to the Spectrum. The Spectrum is gorgeous and extremely light and thin. This is great knife to carry in a business suit. The Adventurer is a heavier duty knife and rock solid. If you showed me these knives and quoted a price of $100-$120 I'd have no problem believing it.
But for $32.95 from ABC Direct they are a screaming steal! I know my girlfriend is going to want the Spectrum and I just may order one of each color for a little variety.

Jackyl, I've got no idea but it would be nice to know. I said Ji-Gand when I ordered but Ireally don't know.

Somebody must be buying the things! I tried to order one from ABC-Direct yesterday and was told that the Spectrum line is sold out there and more are on back order. They look GREAT online.

Sorry whitebear, I must have gotten their last one. The adventurer is great too and it was the same price.

P.S. I also picked up a BM 830 w/ satin clip.

Hey, Jackyl -

Where'd you find a Gigund Spectrum for $21??? Was it local, mail order or internet?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I think Gigand hit on something... that there is a segment of the knife using public, myself included, that wants a quality knife that comes in more colors than the "basic black". Since coming on this forum, I've been screaming for a blue handle "good knife" by any respectable company. Gigand came out with the spectrum and piqued my interest and evidently many others as well. Sal/Spyderco was not too far behind in obliging with the bladeforums. com blue native. If weren''t waiting for the blue native with 440v and am quite happy with the standard "black" handle native I have, I go and purchase the several of the spectrums, i.e. blue, red and gold.

I've to admit, I am sorely tempted anyways despite having already spent way too much, too soon for knives. Argh....

Let me chime in with a "me too." I just picked up a red Spectrum at the ECCKS in NYC & it is sweet.

Excellent fit & finish, not to mention one of the smoothest actions I've ever enjoyed.

In addition to the thumb stud, the back of the tang extends just a hair from the front of the handle allowing for the index finger to flick it open as well. Liner lock up is real solid & held up to the A.T. Barr, wack the back of the blade, test with no problem. Altogether, a very, very nice little knife.

Following-up my own post, I also picked up one of Gigand's Guardian-T neck knives at the ECCKS that I'd also give high marks on design, fit & finish. The handle provides a very secure feel in a variety of grips, particularly the sabre.

The solid-feeling, chisel-ground, AUS-8A, blade features a small choil for when you might want to choke up on the blade. It was hair-scraping, rather than hair-popping sharp out of the box, but touched up rather quickly on a ceramic rod. It should be no problem to re-profile the edge a bit more to my liking.

The magnets in the sheath hold the blade very securely in any position. My only complaint concerns the clip on the sheath. It is a pocket, rather than a belt type, clip and releases from my belt before the sheath releases the blade. By shortening the neck cord and securing it to a belt loop, withdrawing the blade wouldn't be a problem. Just don't expect the sheath to stay on belt or IWB.

With a 4" blade & a bit over 8 1/2" OAL, it won't replace my REKAT under my shirt. Nevertheless, I do see it as a real neat piece to throw around the neck and have under a jacket when walking the dogs. Overall, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better value in an open-carry neck knife.

Follow-up note: As mentioned elsewhere, I used Plasti Dip on the sheath clip to improve its IWB grip. Although I still would have preferred this clip to have been a belt/boot type, it now grips well enough on shorts/sweats to allow the knife to be withdrawn without the sheath coming along.

The Guardian 4" neck knife was a real suprise. The magnetic sheath works very well for retention yet is extremely fast on the draw stroke. The only negatives were the skimpy pocket clip and the noisy clicking magnets when the knife is drawn. For the price it can't be beat.
