Interesting sort of exponential gap between resurrections of this post. At this rate, it’ll come back to life around 2025 or so.

Should be 2024...
First post was 2012, resurrected 3 yrs later in 2015, then again 4 yrs later. Following suit, the next should be in 5 yrs. :p

Look at the trend, though - it’s not linear.
April 1 2012
April 20 (blaze it, airhorns) 2012
April 21 2015
July 31 2015
May 30, 2019

19 days, then 366 days, then 40 days, then 1399 days. If the pattern holds, we’ll see another resurrection in ~80 days, and then another in ~14 years.

I like you lol. Just don’t cheat and revive it yourself in 14 years. If you remember to I will be concerned.

Yeah, but compared to most of the rest of the thread, THAT was an interesting post, for anyone who hadn't heard about any of this. I'd heard most of it. I put Hibben as a custom knife maker right up there with Harvey Draper and Ralph Bone, which is high praise from me.

Not sure the thread needed to be necroed, that's good enough info for a standard issue GKD thread of it's own, even if it might generate only limited interest.

I remember seeing one of his "Cody Bowies" back when I first started getting into knives, and thought it looked absolutely amazing. Never picked one up, but it still looks great. Shame about the United Cutlery though.

He's a very interesting man none the less, wouldn't mind a proper Hibben at some point.

Here's my Gil Hibben 2000 Griffyn Gold # 1044 - Can't remember what i paid fro it in 2000, I'm the original owner, always under acrylic in its mount. But its a nice look. Boom, thread resurrected. lol

Hi!Can you tell me please about this knife?Model, maker year?Thank you.

Style wise, it's mid 60's - early 70's. I wouldn't be surprised if it was from the Manti, Utah period for him, 1965-1970. I agree, it's probably a special order, it's sorta between his Carver and Bowie models. If you want one, best to ask Gil Hibben here - https://www.hibbenknives.com/ . Show him the picture.

-----------------------------------------------------

I've always liked Gil's early stuff, I'd have loved to have seen United copy those in a high quality way instead of what they usually did. At this point, he's probably one of America's oldest living active makers. Also was an early teacher and influencer of Draper. Steve Johnson, etc.... I always feel bad that many think he was just the "fantasy knife" guy.
