Did a nice 5-day trip in the Gila Wilderness of New Mexico, just got back into civilization today. Thought I'd share a few pictures with y'all. Not much commentary today, I'm pretty worn out from the 17-hour car ride back home. In any case, here you go:

Is that the Rio Mimbres in your photos? Near the Gila Cliff Dwellings? It's been a few years is why I'm asking.

Hope you had a great experience. Ruff Cobb

We were on the Gila River, actually. Not sure if Mimbres is an alternate name, or what the Gila runs into, but we were in fact very near the cliff dwellings on a couple days. We ended at the trailhead right at the cliff dwellings visitor center.

Looks like a great hike! What was the weather/temperature like?

Rocketbomb,
I spend a week in Deming last summer and had an awesome time. Went to the cliff dwellings, hot springs, rock hound park,Silver City,Columbus. Pretty wild area ad lots of history;I am trying to talk my wife into retiring down there in a coupla years.
Do you live in the area?

Excellent pics and what a beautiful landscape. I know you have more, so keep em coming!

Wow stunning area looks beautiful. I am really jealous! More pics please!

Actually living in Lincoln, Nebraska now. Never had been to New Mexico before. Don't know much about the history of the area, although I can imagine there is plenty. Sometime if I get some spare time I may read up on it a bit. Cool area, though.

For the rest of y'all, since I'm too lazy to do all the copy and pasting to post more pictures here on the forum, the full album is here.

The day we got there a front was moving through, so it was pretty dreary and drizzly for the first few hours. The system moved through pretty quick, though, and it cleared off fast. The nights were very cold, probably down below 20 F by my estimate. Days were warm, 70s, sunny, and calm. Coming from Nebraska I was fascinated by the lack of wind in the area.

great pics bro! I can't wait to go backpacking there. we are supposed to go near there this summer..... how did you ration your food for the 5 day trip?
