Gimme some feedback on a Spydie

Hey all,

I've been looking to add the Spyderco Italian made Volpe to my collection. I don't know much about the European made N690Co steel, but it's Spyderco so I'm not overly concerned about that. It looks like an attractive knife to me, and I really like the blade shape, the framelock, and the spyder cutout on the backside. Anybody have anything good or bad to say about this one? Just looking for opinions. I thought about putting this on the review forum, but wanted to hear from the true Spyder nuts!:)

Thanks,
Jon

I don't like the looks, and am left handed, so right handed framelocks are not high on my list of favorites. That said, the Volpe feels sold as a rock. The opening action is as smooth a buttering hot toast. Fit and finish are excellent, I would rate it on a par with the best Seki City models and better than most of what's coming out of there these days. The only complaint some have is that the finish on the Olivewood inlays is not very durable and that the wood gets grubby looking fairly quickly. An obvious solution would be refinishing, but I'm not sure how well that would work.

I severely doubt it will happen, but I would not be the least bit disappointed if Spyderco moved Kiwi production to Fox. Anyone who knows how I feel about the Kiwi will know that's the strongest endorsement I can give a maker.

Deacon,
Thanks so much for all of the feedback on the Volpe. I just went ahead and ordered one, at a good price IMO. Also, your link on the negative opinions of the the BRK Native was also very iformative. It just so happens I saw a lot of three of them for sale on ebay last night and almost bid on them, thinking I'd keep one to go with my other natives and sell the other two to friends for a good price. Forget that plan!! I'm so glad I saw your post. Thank you.

Cheers,
jon:)

Jon,

If I had seen this thread earlier, I would've told you that they have one over at the shop in Pier 39 in the city for you to check out. Oh well, you'll be happy.

I honestly liked the name, but it's a little embarrassing telling someone face to face:D.

Guy: "Oh, you're on BF? What's your username?"
Me:" Umm, uh huh. Yeah. ehem, anyway..."

That and I really like Kaizen:p.

How much did you buy it for? There's a great deal on eBay right now for the Volpe.
