Gin?

I've just recently gotten into gin and have started to eschew vodka in preference to it. I started with Tanq, and have been using it for tanq & tonics, but find it to sweet and "vodka-y" for martinis, for which I have been using Bombay Sapphire. What do the gin afficianados like around here...and is Hendrick's worth a shot?

wow, i cannot add to this bc i am not a fan of gin at all. i think its cool that its flavored with juniper berries but woof.. tastes like i am sipping pinesol

The Hendricks gin is actually pretty good, I'm not a big gin fan at all but my Dad is
quite into his gin and that one he likes and one of the few I have tried and liked my self.
There is usually one or two other small batch gins I seen in the old boys hooch
cupboard back home but I can't remember what they were off the top of my head.

I love gin- it's my favorite hard liquor. Hendricks is by far the best I've tried. Just drink it straight, it's delicious.

I'll give it a shot but I was going to try to make a sort-of martini with it, a splash of cold saki and a cucumber slice for garnish

I usually have either Sapphire or Hendricks in a martini. Both are great. Hendricks is smoother and milder, and crisp as a... cucumber.

Another vote for Plymouth - and I like gin a lot. It seems to combine the best parts of my other two favorites, Sapphire and Beefeaters. I even got a few of the bars here to begin carrying it, so now I'm committed to drink martinis when I go into those places.

i used to drink a lotta gin, back when i drank anyway, my fav was bombay saphire, closely followed by std bombay andf tanq.

hendricks and boodles were ok, there was one from scandinavia, i cant remember the name now, i didnt like it at all.

to me it seemed the higher the proof the better,

Tanqueray gin is my favorite. My 85 year old mother drinks this and got me onto it. Schwepps tonic is my favorite tonic water. Add a slice of lime and squeeze a few drops into the drink, and add ice. This gin and tonic has a nice summer zip to it.

Yeah I enjoy Tanqeray for normal gin and tonics, and Sapphire for sitting about enjoying the fine flavors and contemplating the universe.

... and contemplating the universe.
What a depressing prospect.

I always liked vodka, gin, and rum, not that I get to drink much of anything alcoholic anymore. Gin was a rare treat. A girlfriend of mine used to travel with Tanqueray handy. :)

I'll seem if I can pick up that Hendrick's.

Another vote for Hendrick's. I like to sip it on one ice cube, but it makes a great mixer too.
If you've got a Trader Joe's handy you'll pick it up for about $25.

They sell it at the PX for $10 for a 1.75 L. I may not have a sophisticated palate but I enjoy it with Canada Dry Tonic. In a pinch I'll buy the house brand tonic and it goes down well too.

Do a blind taste test... I think you'll find that if you are mixing it with tonic it is hard to justify the extra $$$.

Gotta go.... all this typing is making me thirsty.
