Gin?

Bombay Sapphire is my usual, but anything that drinks is okay in my book. If it's skanky then just add more lime.

I've just recently gotten into gin and have started to eschew vodka in preference to it. I started with Tanq, and have been using it for tanq & tonics, but find it to sweet and "vodka-y" for martinis, for which I have been using Bombay Sapphire. What do the gin afficianados like around here...and is Hendrick's worth a shot?

Here's a list that I think is pretty inclusive of the best gins...

Sapphire is good as many have said.
I strongly recommend Citadelle.

Though I agree with what someone said earlyier, gin drinks seem forgiving to me... A $11 bottle of Seagrams still makes a pretty refreshing Gin and Tonic in my opinion.

best way to drink good gin is on ice with about 3 drops of tonic water lol, thats how i used to do it anyway,

same with martini's, i used to mix the gin and ice, shake and let chill, and have about 2 spoons of vermouth in the glass with some ice to chill the glass, then pour out the ice & vermouth and fill with the cold gin, then add a olive or preferebly a olive and a cocktail onion, and ya have the A#1 best martini, imho anyway........

one of my buds used to mix 2 parts gin to one part vermouth and i thought it was horrible, wayyy too much vermouth.

i used to go to laredo tx a lot and one of the import/export stores on the international bridge had bombay saphire for $9 US a liter which was a helluva deal, i still have a bottle or 2 from '04 i rarely drink anymore.

Gunga Din

You may talk o' gin and beer
When you're quartered safe out 'ere,
An' you're sent to penny-fights an' Aldershot it;
But when it comes to slaughter
You will do your work on water,
An' you'll lick the bloomin' boots of 'im that's got it.

Now in Injia's sunny clime,
Where I used to spend my time
A-servin' of 'Er Majesty the Queen,
Of all them blackfaced crew
The finest man I knew
Was our regimental bhisti, Gunga Din.

......He was "Din! Din! Din!
..You limpin' lump o' brick-dust, Gunga Din!
......Hi! Slippy hitherao!
......Water, get it! Panee lao!
..You squidgy-nosed old idol, Gunga Din."

-- Rudyard Kipling

I mostly drink gin now. For G&Ts I think almost any gin will do. I am a big fan of Tanqueray, but Gordon's and Bombay are just fine. I once had a bottle of Magellan, and that was pretty good too. I've never really tried the cheapest stuff, Seagrams/Potters, or the ultra-premium gin.

+1 for Bombay Sapphire

Though I haven't had Gin in a long time.. I have been on the Vodka thing. and because its so damn hot outside. German Lagers and Wheat beers.

I enjoy hendricks very much, but bombay original is a bit cheaper and I like it almost equally. Gin and tonic is something, but try:

1 part gin
2 parts Pimm's liquor
3 parts Reed's extra ginger brew
cucumber spear
serve in collins glass w/ ice

DC

Bombay and Saphire are what are aging in my cubpoard. have to try Hendricks unfortunatly with young children opportunities to sit back and contempalte the universe are all too infrequent
