Brown shoe polish & heat, then hand rubbed with fine grit sandpaper...?

leather dye and a good rubbing after?

or wait, was that my date last night?

I think you covered it in leather from an old shoe in order to make it look like it was covered in old shoe leather!!!!. . . See?. . . It's like I'm a genius!!!. . . Only completely different!!!!

Cool offer on the give away!!!!

Let me know if I won!

Lots of good guessing going on here.

And some of your responses were out standing.

I am really enjoying reading them.

We do have a winner though.

The guy from Alaska got it right !!!!

Upsidedownviking wins; he got it exactly right first. :D

Sorry Silverbullets; he added a important part.:)

I will throw a guess, you heated it too much, either that or spilled the bleach

+1 on over heated, blasted it with heat gun on high until it darkened and shined up then went over it with a sanding, wire or polishing wheel.

I was using the last peice of Tan kydex (looks like I will be able to get more) I had & my son accidentally left in in the cooker too long, when I discovered it, I decided to go ahead & make the sheath, & see what happens.

It was still tan on one side.

When buffing the edges I had an idea to buff the high spots & make it look like distressed leather.

I think it looks really cool & I am keeping the mistake sheath for my brown handled S5.

Mr Viking send me a e-mail & I will fix you up with your free S5 sheath.

Thank you for playing everyone.

Can't belive that I got it right. The more I read the other posts the more I thought it had to be dye or polishing compound. Figure the other sheath makers would have got it, or maybe they were throughing curve balls.

Thanks allot, cool contest, and that leather style sheath looks great for edc, so when your sheath shows in public it's not some big black "tacti-cool" job.
