Give me your run down on the RESPECT

I'd like to add something. The goal of the project was to have a design that was true to "The spirit , Tradition, history and function of the Legendary Bowie Knife". I have known many knife-makers and have seen many versions and thought that Spyderco, an American company, should have an American made Bowie knife. Mike says it part of our Ethnic series. He's right, but I never thought of it that way. I learned a lot from the likes of: Wayne Goddard, Bill Bagwell (especially the in-the-pants carry), Ed Schempp , Mike Sastre and many others. Great teachers, all, and I'm humbled to have had the Opportunity to study with them all.

It's expensive so we probably won't go more than one run, but it's a special piece fore those that appreciate how it carry's and performs.

Both Respect and Darn Dao are currently in-stock at KnifeCenter!
The Darn Dao is in stock? You are lying sack of sh-Screenshot_1.jpg
Oh good lord why did you tell me this! Now I must go poor because of an addiction. (neh I like the knife but I'm not dumb enough to do such a thing and thanks for the tip for others) Also since things are in stock despite being a hot item I hope I got a Gen 2 that is free from a rattling guard.

Yes i was and your team took care of me, thank you for looking out for me. I got an equal value replacement. I gotta admit im pretty bummed though, the respect in my opinion is probably the nicest bowie in its class! Sad to see mine go

Hi Halfginger,

My sincere apologies for all of the BS you had to go through. We had two of them break, though we're not yet figured out why. I believe there were a couple in 2nds that we are currently testing.

Should we decide to do another run, we'll make sure we don't end up with the same problem.

no need to be sorry you interacting with us consumers is awesome! thank you

Just saw the pic below posted by Kerbstomp in the Spyderco Forum showing the break in his Respect at the point where the exposed narrow tang (which is called the ricasso in the 1st pist in this thread) beyond the blade meets the handle.

I don't know if this exposed tang design of the Respect & others like it is inherently weak but I've always "felt" that they were. So, I've never liked fixed blade knives designed this way & it's main reason why I never bought a Respect to add to my collection.

However, I was just reminded that I traded away an RMJ Choppa for a Tony Mont Bowie with a blade design similar to the Respect but I have absolutely no intention of chopping a 2x4 with it.

LOL!!! ;)🤷‍♂️
