I got rid of both of my Benchmade folders but I'm missing them now. I'm thinking of a Rift again or a 710.

I work in an office M-F and would like a modern knife for work and I think the 710 would work well with khakis?

I really like how much blade the 950 packs but I doubt I'd be missing it if I went with the 710. Then again maybe I should get both. ;)

Thoughts on these two knives?

Let me clarify: I am not wanting an office knife per se, I was just thinking the 710 would be slim enough for the office due to khakis. I know the knife laws and have no trouble carrying a large folder for work as long as it's pocketable.

Really dig the 940 but it's priced high for what it is.

UPDATE:

Just to give you guys an update. I ordered a 940 Osborne today. I know I know, I said it was too pricey. Honestly though, that knife design is what got me seriously interested in Benchmade, so I bit the bullet. I also ordered it's big brother the 950 Rift though! :) I had a Rift and was really warming up to it when I got an offer on it I couldn't refuse.

Decided against the 710 for now as I love the handle but prefer more belly to my blade and wasn't sold on the recurve in the blade. Also got this in today. I bought it and realized I bought the BIG version. Had it listed for sale here but now that I've got it in hand it's perfect. REALLY dig this one.

The Rift doesn't do much for me. But I have never handled it in person.

However , I am a big fan of the 710. That big blade practically disappears when it's folded up in the closed position. A beautiful well-built knife. It's been around for 15 years for a reason.

Both are nice knives, but I prefer the 710 between the two. I've owned two Rift models (and sold them) but own five 710 variants and all are keepers. So if there's a choice, I've chosen. Being around for 15 years as a design is an amazing record in terms of production knives.

The 710 is one of my favorite knives. Lots of blade packed into that handle. And it thumbs open great.

I vote 710. Smaller when in the pocket but larger opened up. In addition the Rift has this bump on the handle at the back end that shouldn't be there. It is right where you pinkie ends up if you have larger hands. I had 2 Rifts and sold them because of this. Plus, I like D2 steel over 154CM.

You can't go wrong with both, but being in an office enviroment, I'd definitely get the 710. Its a lot slimmer and packs a great blade length and steel. Benchmade does a great 154cm, but I like the d2 better. But whatever you get will serve you well.

I use 940 instead of 950 in my office. It blends in nicely than G10 handle, slim line blade works perfectly in corporate environment. I think 940 is sports coat version of 950. As I like 710, but blandishing 4" blade in office doesn't seems too appropriate.

I agree. I carry a 940 as well at my job in the office.

I think I am going to go with the 710. I do dig the blade shape of the 950 but I like a slimmer EDC. I may not use the 710 at the office due to size. I generally carry a smaller traditional knife anyway. Not a big fan of the 940 due to price and handle material.

maybe Wait a bit & get the 940-1 in CF?

Re: D2, None at all. If you work in an office where a folder doesn't send HR up the wall, then a 4" blade length may not cause any more concern than a 3". Splitting hairs to carry or not to carry.

I would recommend the Contego over the Rift every time. The 710 is a great knife and has to be one of the best knives Benchmade has ever produced, along with the Grip series. ;)

The Contego was on my shortlist over the Rift. I was worried that all the gimping would be uncomfortable in my hand. Do you have one? Your thoughts on it?

The 710 is a very fine knife. It is big though as is the Rift and Contego. The Rift is a little smoother and smaller than the Contego which is designed to be held no matter what

If you're in an office setting the 943 or 940 are slimmer and a little more friendly looking
