Not a real woods knife but its a beater.

Here is my beater...

A Bill Siegle Custom, the Cutlass.

This was it's second spray paint coat. Since then, it has been stripped, and I just cold-blued it today....

Cool contest! Sorry to hear about the gear that went swimming. It happens to the best of us. There's an 8-pack of Guinness about 20 ft. off the dock of my friend's cottage, probably 40 ft. down - I try to rationalize it as a willing sacrifice to the lake spirits, but secretly I suspect it has something to do with me trusting the structural integrity of wet cardboard ...

Anyway, here's my EDC. It's only eight months old, but it hasn't left my side since I finished it, and it's starting to look like a well-used antique. I can't wait to see it in ten years!

hey powernoodle.. you may want to blur out the serial on your firearm sir. I've heard it's not good to show them on the net for some reason or another.

I usually just lurk around here. I am not entering it but thanks for the generous giveaway.

Well, I fall into the "new to the game" category. So new in fact I only have one pic of a knife. But I do plan on beating it to death.

I really wanted a "mid size" fixed blade. So I did some research and settled on a Mora 780 triflex.

So far I like it a lot... I have a few other folders. Mostly low end stuff compared to what you fellas have! :). Ill get there.

Here is my shiny new non patina'd Mora.. but it has been used already! :) And a sheath I made...

Sorry to hear about the gear you lost to Davey Jones’ Locker (any relation to our own Brian Jones?).

You are right about not trusting all your survival gear to your pack, having the basics on your person is always a good idea.

One Knife I have really enjoyed putting through its paces is this KSF Custom Bowie, it has proved itself to be a very capable field tool.

Although it doesn't look all that used, it is. This one has been my constant companion since June of 2003. Still my favorite and the reason I haven't bought any more knives in this size.

Thanks for the chance.

I've carried this for around fifteen years now. I have no clue what steel or who made it but it has been a great little knife. If anyone knows who may have made it I'd love to know.

Mentor,
that thing is awesome. forgive my ignorance but who's the maker? you? looks a little like Koyote's style but the leather doesn't...what i do know is it looks perfect.
i did NOT drop my booze in the lake, haha that i was careful with apparently...i needed an excuse to find new scout steels and knives anyways. the buck hurts though she had some years in her. i'd almost prefer a second hand 110 just because i don't like them shiney it doesn't look right.

keep the pictures coming boys, i can't see enough of these beaters.

thanks for the contest:thumbup:
the bk7 is the *beater* in the pic (currently do not have any of the Mistress after her many uses:D)

goatariba, thanks for the compliment! This is definitely a great little knife. It is based on a 'cobbler's knife' from Ragweed Forge. The cobbler's knife is just a straightforward full-tang scandi with a 5" handle - it looks like a thin piece of steel with one end roughly ground into a blade.

IMG_2406.jpg

That being said, they are cheap, heat-treated, and they make a great base for modifications. With this one, I cut down and contoured the handle, dropped the point, re-finished the edge (first with my belt sander, then with water stones), and added padauk handle scales and pins. The pins are from old nails. All told, the knife couldn't have cost more than $15 to make. The sheath is from one of the online knifemaker supply sites - I wet-formed it and hardened it with neatsfoot oil. Anyway, cobbler's blades are unfortunately currently discontinued at Ragweed Forge, but if you ever come across them, they are a blast to work with - sort of like the poor man's Mora (and that's saying something!). With a little creativity, they can really turn out nice.

All the best,

- Mike

Sorry for your loss. Great giveaway though. Here's mine. Given when I got my Whittlin' Chip back in Cub Scouts.

Goin on 20 years of carrying this blade. Yes, I carry it more than anything when I am out in the woods. Still haven't settled on a suitable FB even though a Mora will usually travel with me...

This kukri was carried long before I had a camera (priorities). A local man has his In-Laws make them for him in Nepal and send them to him. This thing is great and would be my "only knife" choice as I have done so much with it that I understand it's limits (I prefer to fillet Northern Pike than Perch anyday). The only place I found that it really was not worth its size was the arctic tundra, but i really don't want to go to a desert either.

It is the only kukri that I have ever seen with a reddish ?bone/polished antler? handle with finger grooves.

Excellent idea for a contest.
I was lucky enough to win a giveaway this year, so I won't take part in this one.

My beater knife for the last 4 or 5 years has been my Camillus Becker BK9

The folder will require a back scale before it goes back into the woods. It was/is an cutco stamped electricians knife that I full convexed to a zero edge both blades (yes the clip point blade was a screw driver at one time which means it locks open) and I tried some bluing on the drop point blade. The fixed blade is a Cold Steel Bushman (full sized) that I bought in college circa summer of 1996.
