Giveaway from HellTown Knives

Some good replies thus far. I'm going to leave this open a while longer, at least through Sunday evening.

I apologize for not checking in sooner, but I've had a rough couple days. I woke up Thursday night/Fri morning with some nausea; nothing bad, I thought. Took some anti-emetic, slept until 7AM, woke up extremely thirsty and chugged a liter of water, back to sleep until 8AM.

I started throwing up profuse amounts of blood. Called my wife at work, covered the emergency plan, and threw up even more blood. Called the ambo; I won't say that I threw up an ungodly amount of blood in the back of the rig, but the boys were talking about gallons of bleach and a firehose; I was covered in blood from nose to feet by the time we reached the ER.

[insert long boring medically detailed storyline here]

I just got home after checking myself out AMA - Against Medical Advice. The hospital not only gave me blood when I didn't really need it, but they gave me blood which was not screened, and which had at least one antibody that is incompatible with my blood system and could have killed me. Additionally, I stressed I had not taken my chemo drugs that day; this is the same hospital I got to for cancer treatment. They never contacted any member of my standard hematology team, and even though I told 5 doctors what chemo I was taking, they just looked at me and assured me they knew everything about everything.

What they apparently didn't know is that if you stop this particular chemo drug cold-turkey for 72 hours, you - as the inventor of the drug told me "Will begin down a path that ends with you dying a particularly nasty death, much like sepsis, that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemies." I waited until hour 30, not one person bothered to get the drug for me, nor ask me if there was any way to have somebody get it from my house. I left at that point.

So...get some more good answers posted for me to read!

Ummm whoa. Somehow I get the impression that “feel better” doesn’t quite cut it.

I sincerely hope and pray that you make a quick and complete recovery.

That's not a "rough couple days", Bruddah.... that's just plain miserable doings!

You make it through this episode unscathed, then you keep this Byrd Meadowlark as a symbol...

Scratch a big ol' "Me First" or a grand scale winkie/smilie emoticon on it and declare victory.

And pack this piece as a reminder that YOU are the badass in this situation.

Wow, and I thought I was feeling a little under the weather . That's rough. I hope are feeling better soon.

Nah. I have plenty of knives. I also have more for giveaways. thank you for your good wishes.

The sound of sharp is "thump"...the sound your head makes when hitting the floor, when it occurs to you that you've been cut right before the lights go out.

Back when I was a carpenter, carried a Stanley type utility knife, and would cut myself, the first word or sound was, "Chit" Then the next sound was me rushing to find something to wrap around the cut. Usually it was toilet paper from the porti-john and black tape from the nearest electrician. That was a standard construction bandaid right there.

Good to hear, and good on ya.

Ultimately, I can't give you the sound of sharp. Sharp encompasses all of my senses...

Sense of touch, as I feel that I don't have to "force" sharp, I merely guide it through the material at hand;

Sense of sight, as I look at the edge in appreciation;

Sense of smell as the wood is whittled away, or the apple slice gives up its essence;

Sometimes, if the material and edge is right, I might not hear a sound. But if I do, it is its own symphony consisting of blade and material, of which I am merely the conductor.... and appreciative audience. :D

Well, my whim has spoken. First place to BilboBaggins BilboBaggins for his entry, quoted below:

* Sung to Simon and Garfunkel's Sound of Silence

Hello sharpness, my old friend
I chased you with a strop and then
A vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sharpening
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of sharpness

I chased you with water stones
Even tried a cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a work lamp
I held the blade in a steel clamp
When my finger was stabbed by the flash of a pointed knife
It gave me fright
And touched the sound of sharpness

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand grit, maybe more
Edges talking without speaking
Cutting paper without ripping
Edges splitting a single hanging hair
It made me scared
Inside the sound of sharpness

Fools, said I, you do not know
Sharpness like water flows
Hear my words that I might teach you
What lapping films really can do
But my words, like finger guillotines fell
And echoed in the depths of sharpness

And the people bowed and prayed
To the bevels that were made
And I shouted out a warning
To beware the edge forming
And the blade opened smoothly riding on little ceramic balls
They heard the call
And whispered in the sounds of sharpness

 I'll just see myself into the nearest psychiatric facility. Cheers.

Second place to @hk1123 for his entry, quoted below:

I suppose to "sound" sharp, what was heard would need to cut, so - the uncomfortable truth about ourselves we do not wish to acknowledge might cut most keenly, or perhaps, what we most need to hear.

Since @marcinek has expressed the earnest desire to learn more about my whim: Bilbo won because I had been singing "The Sound of Silence" to myself, inspired by Disturbed's version, for 3 days or so prior to announcing this giveaway. I felt that since Bilbo somehow reached that deeply into my being, he was deserving of first place.

Second place: I did not plan for this. That's what I love about whims. I felt that @hk1123 hit upon another aspect of my being that has been particularly forward in its self-expression as I come closer and closer to death from this cancer.

With winners picked: I will give choice to BilboBaggins BilboBaggins : a BNIB Byrd MeadowLark 2 SS P OR a BNIB Byrd Crossbill SS PS. Whichever one Bilbo does not wish to receive goes to the second place winner hk1123.

Thanks to all who took the time to enter. Winners, please contact me via email: helltownknives(at)gmail.com . I'll need shipping information, etc.

As always, a big thanks to BF!
