Giveaway - gone nowhere??? - Brutus013

I have always wondered why some folks do this. Thankfully it's a rare event, a giveaway with no giveaway but it never makes any sense why anyone would engage in something like this.

Anyone have any idea(s) why????

Just a thought...

Thanks for the notice.
That's really shady, to post that you're doing something out of the kindness of your heart, get peoples hopes up, and then when the one lucky person who wins finds out, they get so excited and are really happy and appreciative... just for you to not send it to them. I think that's sad really. I mean, I won a give away and I was soooo excited and when it finally got here I was even more excited lol. So it's really just a let down and a bummer.

Happened to me a few years ago here. I've had a few strokes of luck and received a huge stack of Blade magazines from Bruce Bump, and a giant box of very nice stabilized wood from a fine gentleman who's name escapes me.

The third time, however, was not a charm. Somehow I had won a very nice set of hunting knives made by Knives of Alaska from a fellow here. A big cleaver, and a small caping knife in a piggyback sheath. After a few emails back and forth, the guy told me a few hard luck stories about divorce, and storage units etc. and then stopped communicating altogether. A mild bummer, but hey....I never paid the guy anything and I didn't really lose anything.

IIRC, we had a guy here get banned a few years back for pulling this kind of stunt. Perhaps this needs to be the price one pays for not delivering. Even if free, it somebody makes a commitment, they ought be held to account for keeping his word.

I was involved in a giveaway for an equestrian slipjoint that was never sent, and the other party was banned from this and other discretions. I also had to chase down another member for months before he sent me anything, and it was much less than he originally stated, but I was happy to get some resolution. Unfortunately it was a pay it forward, so I lost out from receiving similar quality/value from what I gave away.

We all make mistakes from time to time, but keeping a promise in a community like this is very important to me, it's sad when something disrupts the trust formed here.

The miscreant that Kris is referring to not only welched on his giveaway but attempted to do so on another that I had to intercede in and hound him about (until resolution was finally obtained).

Additionally, he cheated / swindled members of another forum out of money he had collected on their behalf for a knife purchase.

Compounded by the fact that he was also a bloody nuisance in the Traditional and other forums made my decision to send him overboard a no-brainer.

A person's word is his bond whether it's here on these forums or elsewhere....once that trust is gone, it's gone...as indicated in my signature below.

Well I'm not going to hound him about the GAW. All I can do is follow up a few times to see if he has sent it.

I have given away a few free sheaths setups in the past and enjoy do it. Even sometimes just throw in a lanyard flop, paracord bracelet, random stickers or patches.
It's very nice to get a email back with a thanks for the extra _____!!!!
