My edc has my favorite quote:

I've been a mechanic for 45 years ago this one's always been relevant to me:

Thanks for the chance, I've always wanted to try out the single bladed Gent's Swayback, thanks for the generous giveaway, always enjoy readin' your posts.

Up for grabs is a Case Swayback Gent in Mediterranean blue bone engraved with a Greek key pattern.

Oh, La. Wheelhouse.

Since this knife has a Classical, Greco-Roman theme and I am a Classics teacher myself, enter by posting your favorite ancient Greek or Latin quotation (in English translation).

Oh, La.

(Is there an echo in here?)

As for a standard quotation, I'll go with that found on timepieces:

Omnes vulnerant, ultima necat: Every hour wounds, the last kills.

Beyond that, I still get chills when I hear or read Arma virumque cano, "I sing of arms and the man," because of the goodness of immersing myself in Virgil's work with a wonderful teacher back in my own ancient history (high school).

Finally, if you haven't already encountered Anne Carson's Nox, I highly recommend it. The work defies ready description, but presents profound grief as encountered and expressed through the process of translating Catullus 101. Here's a taste:

I guess this isn't an entry since I embrace more modern literature.

Foilist, thank you for the chance. I studied Greek and Latin myself in school, and loved Greek literature especially.
Never thought I would get the chance share one of my favourite poems here, and possibly win a beautiful knife :)

Immortal Aphrodite of the shimmering thone, daughter of Zeus, weaver of wiles, I pray thee crush not my spirit with anguish and distress, O Queen. But come hither if ever before thou didst hear my voice afar, and hearken, and leaving the golden house of thy father, camest with chariot yoked, and swift birds drew thee, their swift pinions fluttering over the dark earth, from heaven through mid-space. Quickly they arrived; and thou blessed one with immortal countenance smiling didst ask: What now is befallen me and why now I call and what I in my heart's madness, most desire. What fair one now wouldst thou draw to love thee? Who wrongs thee Sappho? For even if she flies she shall soon follow and if she rejects gifts, shall soon offer them and if she loves not shall soon love, however reluctant. Come I pray thee now and release me from cruel cares, and let my heart accomplish all that it desires, and be thou my ally.

(Sappho, "Hymn to Aphrodite")

Thanks for the chance!
