Giving a knife to your wife / girlfriend

For a couple of weeks I am thinking about giving a knife to my girlfriend. (not for self-defense, i dont think a knife is the right choice for self-defense for a woman when she is not well trained)

My question is: Have you ever given a knife to your wife or your girlfriend (i guess houndreds of you have
smile.gif
)????
WHAT WAS IT?
How did she like it? Does she carry and use the knife?

I made the experience, that every man needs toys (knives, guns, cars, computers,...) and this is a good thing IMO.
To me it seems that women dont need any toys at all. They are interested in some other stuff (most of it boring stuff IMO

)

But i am not sure if women really dont want any toys or if they think people would consider them as weird if they were interested in some of the above mentioned stuff.

Or is this something special with german women???

Oops, accitentally i have been writing down my thoughts...

bye

Gave my wife a pearl handled Case pen knife last Valentines Day. Knife has a small pen blade and scissors. I assumed she would throw it in her purse and there it would stay. imagine my surprise when i found her sharpening the kids marshmallow sticks when camping last summer. Not exactly what I had in mind when I gave it to her but I was glad to see her use it. Maybe she needs a small Sebenza this year.

Can't go wrong with a small keychain model to start. Gave a SAK Classic and it gets used almost everyday for loose threads, ARGH! chipped nails, etc... Once you see the pointy, sharp thing come out more than once, you may even have a candidate for a larger knife, maybe, GASP

I gave my now ex -girlfriend a knife when we were still together. It was a gigand spectrum and she used and carried it quite a bit.In fact she liked it so much that she practiced to flick the blade open in bed...
over all it is a great way to make our loved ones understand our desposition/addiction

Get you honey a small Swiss Army knife with the scissors, tooth pick, tweezers, nail tool and a blade. It is a Manicure kit, not a knife!

When I bought my first Spyderco at the NYCKS in '98, a Walker lt/wt, I bought my wife a "Q" with New York cut through the blade, she thought it was cute. She brought it with her to work a few times, just for show, after that it stayed home. I've asked her if there was a knife that she liked that she would carry on a daily basis, and was surprised to find out that she did carry a knife every day, a little SAK with one blade and black scales, in her makeup kit.

Sal Glesser from Spyderco was looking for a knife that would appeal tol women, I suggested a Spydecard that was also a makeup mirror, my wife really liked that idea and so did SAl. I don't know if Sal is planning to do anything with the idea, but my wife wants one.

My wifey poo used to glare at me everytime I would beg her to go with me to the gun show/cutlery store, buy one of them knife mags, 'order' a catalog, go on the net to look/drool at knives. THEN...

She would YELL at me every time I would buy, order, put a deposit on any knife. (Not that I do that a lot
wink.gif
) and THEN...

I bought her a Mini Max from Bud Nealy. A real purty one with ivory micarta handles and a matching kydex sheath. Ooohh, she says, it's so sharp and so pretty! I figure this should keep her happy for at LEAST a year, but NO...

so then I buy her a MOD Ladyhawk. Basically the same blade shape as the Mini Max, but it folds! Again, she's happy, until she learns that I have ordered more knives, so THEN...

I order her a neck knife from Mr. Jerry Hossom. Not just ANY neck knife, but a HOSSOM neck knife! Take a gander at his website to see one just like it. She hasn't received it yet, but when she does, I just KNOW she'll forgive me for knocking her up!

My daughter asked for a SAK Classic last year for Christmas (she was 13). Of all the knives I have ever bought, that little SAK for my little girl was the most fun to buy.

First wife-knife was the Spyderco Moran. She used it a lot in the camp kitchen. She sews so

next came the Leatherman Micra. She appreciates and uses the scissors. Last summer I bought her the Spyderco MiniDyad and she liked the functionality of the serrated blade for tougher stuff and keeping the plainedge sharp and clean for foodstuffs.

The latter two reside in "the black hole" she calls purse. Individual thongs attached to the straps are their only lifeline preventing them from becoming darkmatter.

I tried other knives, like the Calypso Jr and Dragonfly, small efficient sized cutters, butt she 'will not' put her fingers on the blade so their design is compromised for her.

Hmm...

Recently, I bought one lady friend a Dragonfly Lightweight (Serrated) for X'mas, and another a Delica (Plain) for her b'day.

I never got -any- response from either. Not a single comment nor mention about the knife(s).

*Sigh*

Hello,

I gave my wife a Benchmade 820 and a Leatherman Micra for every day type of use. She really likes the 820. For camping and such, I have her a Cold Steel SRK.

Gave the wife a little Buck rainbow keychain knife, she used it some.

We moved recently and with all the boxes we did a lot of cutting, she borrowed my sebenza often as the Buck was to small, and dulled to easily.

Eventually she appropriated the Spyderco Snappit, I might buy her a red one from A.G.

The first knife I got my wife was a Leatherman Micra. Since then she has taken my Spyderco Dragonfly.

I just bought the new girlfriend one of the small Victorinox SAKs (Executive?) in black. She keeps it on her keychain along with the white Photon II that I got for her.

I handed her my Dragonfly and asked what she thought of it. She just shrugged her shoulders and said she might carry it in her purse, but that she wouldn't use it much.

Maybe I'll buy her a Delica to keep in her purse. Even if she doesn't use it, it'll be there for me in case I need it. She doesn't seem to take anything back out of her purse once it's in there, so I think it would be safe.

Hint: Not all women want a knife, but they seem to really appreciate the Photon lights. It's already kept her from stepping in dog crap in the grass outside of her apartment, proving its worth (and mine

I'm looking into getting the wife a knife now. Just went and got her her first pistol a Glock 19 9mm. She has a small Al Mar on her keychain but now it's time to find somthing a tad bigger.

I gave my wife a SpeedTech Synergy and she loves it. In general I would think that you can give any woman a knife and she'll like it, but...
if she has no obvious interest in knives, then it's not going to be blade geometry or steel selection or handle ergonomics that will initially attrackt her. Instead try to find something that appeals to her sense of beauty like Mother of Perl inlays, Abalone, Opals, Silver... you know what I mean. It still needs to be a good knife, but the emphasis should be on beauty. I guarantee that it will be reveived better than a Busse Battle Mistress

Hi Guys...

Although my wife won't carry daily, she will carry when we go Bush...

I don't think she's like wearing a big knife like my Fallkniven AI, but I could possibly talk her into the FI.

I also have a TOPS Wolf Pup, that she has taken a liking to as well.

Stat off small with the ladies,,let them get use to the fact, then move them up to something bigger..

Once they find out how handy it is,,they'll start wearing it more often.

Besides that,, you won't hear the words "Honey,,can I borrow your knife?"
LOL

After what seemed like several thousand dollars worth of trips to the nail shop I finally gave my honey a Dragonfly to carry. By my calculations I have already saved about $800.00 and guess what I'm going to do with it.

Gave my ex girlfriend the Q and the first Leatherman I had when she went abroad and I miss them allot...

To my wife I bought the small Victorinox ("what am I going to do with it...") that gets everyday use and lately she even used the gold Swiss tech I attached to her key-chain - and liked it so much, all of the guys at her office want one too...

Neutrally - I attached a small mag-lite to her key chain - but it doesn't seem to be doing much - think I'll get her the Photon
