Giving a knife to your wife / girlfriend

My story rings familiar with Fox Creek and Normark.

After hearing, "Honey, got your knife?" "Honey, got your scissors?" "Honey, got your knife?" "Honey, can you cut this?", I finally got my SO the hot pink SAK manicure set. LMAO

Funny part of that story is that we were doing other shopping that same day and we got in the car and we weren't there for 10 seconds and there was the familiar, "Honey, got your...?" so I broke down and gave it to her at that time instead of waiting for her birthday.

I "forced" my girlfriend to look through a catalog and pick out ANYTHING she wanted. She came up with the Leatherman Micra. Not what I had in mind, but it's a start

I got my wife a Leatherman Micra, then a CRKT KISS. Now she wants a bigger knife. What she really wants is my BM 710 Axis lock.
She will not use a liner lock. I have a shipment of knives coming in from WOW, so there might be something in there that she likes.

My wife is not really a knife person, but she is outdoors a lot gardening and riding horses, so I feel like she'd make use of the right knife, if I can only figure out what that is. This Valentine's Day I'm planning to introduce her to a small knife that's purely about function and high-quality construction: one of the small Spyderco's, maybe the Cricket or a stainless Dragonfly. I'll present it sunk into a decorative piece of dark chocolate. We'll see...

I haven't been able to convince my wife to carry a knife yet but I have asked her several times to take a look at mine and see if one would work for her. She has no interest in them and thinks they all look alike, this actually is to my benefit. Since she can't tell them apart she can't keep track of how many I have.
I did get her to put a Photon on her keychain Though.

I got my wife a pink Delica and a pink Cricket really as a joke. I was looking at Chai's webpages when she asked what was I looking at. I told her a knife for her.

She carries the Cricket everyday with a SAK. She uses the Delica and a Harpy in her roses. She also has three purple SAKs along with several purple and splash Microtechs in the case.

It's a fine line between "a hobby" and "mental illness".

I gave my girlfriend a mini Swiss army knife, a carbon fiber Spyderco ladybug, a stainless steel Spyderco native (which she lost after a couple days after I gave it to her), and now she has a Benchmade 705 Axis lock which she loves (and I do too, can't stop playing with it at times). She likes the knives I collect and I would love to get her a custom or a Sebenza some day. The thing is that she doesn't know how much I spend on knives. Hehe.

Maybe I am not typical, but, I do like a knife, preferring a small tanto that I can wear on the back of my belt. It is a managable size for me, sturdy, and holds an edge well. As I work at night some, it is reassuring to have. (when diplomacy is useless.)

My girlfriend started off by claiming MY BM Mel Pardue Auto for HERSELF (less than a month after I got it) because she liked playing with it. Then she got a BM Mel Pardue Lightweight and a CRKT M-16 spearpoint for actual use. Seems to be a trend going on with her and spearpoints. I now have locks on ALL my display cases.

I guess I'm one of the fortunate guys to have a beautiful wife who also loves all kinds of cool things. She loves motorcycling (she's got one of the new Yamaha R6's and keeps up with me on my R1 pretty well).

She's gone through all sorts of knives but right now it looks like the Ken Onion Whirlwind (1560ST), a Protect SideKick Jazz, a MOD Ladyhawk, a BM705 Mini Axis Lock, a Microtech Mini Socom and a SOG Pocket Plier Tool (She carries this in her purse) are her keepers. She always carries the Kershaw and one other knife on her person on a daily basis depending on her mood.

She's very picky about her knives.

(1) It's got to be comfortable in her pockets (long handled knives are uncomfortable and tend to stick out and print because of the "curvy hips") (2) the knife has to feel good in the hand; (3) the knife has to be a fast opener; (4) the knife has to be good looking and (5) it's got to be razor sharp.

Wife wouldn't touch one of my knives for the first year we were married, took her to a show and let her pick out something she liked. She went right too a bm812 hssr (a pre-production model), She now carries it at all times and is very good at one-hand opening, so good in fact that her father was so impressed he wanted to learn. Turnin this knife thing into a family thing!

My wife has taken possesion of a decorated Umfaan and now a Dozier Strait Hunter.

Hello to all: I bought my wife two knives so far. She has a Tool logic (with light) and a Spydie Wegner Jr. Both stay in her purse all the time. She occasionally opens cans with the Wegner Jr!!

Bought my wife a Spyderco "Q", but she can't carry it as she is a school teacher and the Nazi-like "Zero Tolerance of Weapons Policy" goes for teachers as well as students here in the formerly free USA. Not that those with criminal intent on their minds care about the school system's stupid-ass policy in the first place.

As usual, only the innocents are harmed by irresponsible legislation.
She won't carry it away from work either because she is afraid she will forget it in her purse when she goes to work.

Unfreakinbelievable but true.
Is that a DAMNED shame or what?!

I gave my wife a Dale Reif persian folder with about a 2" blade from my collection. George Werth damascus, purple anodized titanium, MOP thumbstud. She loves it. It gets used very lightly for things like string and she knows that if she prys with it and breaks the blade that I will never let her touch a knife again. I have two young daughters right now and when they are old enough and deemed sensible, they will get their knives, too. I don't look too seriously at a knife as a self defense tool, but my wife was bitten by a dog when she was a small child (it latched on to her face and wouldn't let go, and it took two strong adult men to pull it off). Now when she goes for walks with our daughters near one infamous neighborhood dog's place, she carries an EDI Genesis just in case. She would carry a small handgun, as she is very proficient with those, but in our county concealed carry is almost an impossibility for citizens.
