>>I do have one dream though...simple really...a cure for the AIDS virus. Or does that fall more in the lines of a miricle?
It depends on the recovery rate. Everything has to be tested using a double blind study, so the person taking the "cure" and the person administrating it, does not know which one is the test "cure" and which one is the "sugar pill cure".
One-third of the people will ALWAYS respond to the "sugar pill cure". So to even go to market a so called cure has to prove to be effective in at least 50% of the cases tested. This is really only a 15% improvement over the sugar pill cure, but it's enough that the government will allow the manufacture to go to market with their product. Of course the problem is that some so called cures showed improvement during the 6 week study, but in the long run, the people taking the sugar pill ended up doing better.
In order for something to be considered a "medical miracle", it would have to be effective in 85 to 86% of the cases. As is the case with some of the ulcer medications, and some of the antibiotics for infections.
Even if you could cure 1/3 of the people who have aids, which would be your sugar pill cure rate, that would not be enough of a cure rate to be considered a medical miracle.
I had a little spot of cancer on my shoulder from a bad sunburn when I was a kid. When the doctor sliced it off, he told me to keep an eye on it, to make sure it did not come back. But the cure rate on that is in the 85 to 95% range. I told him if I did not have enough faith to pray my way into a 85% group, I would be in real trouble. What would I do if I had to pray my way into a 33% cure rate group? One thing every doctor will agree on, is that 1/3 of everything is curable, if you can get the person to have faith and believe in the cure. Thanks, JohnR7
