Hey all,

It's been a while since I posted on the forums, it feels like forever actually. This is my first post on this section of the forum, something I never thought would happen, to be honest...So, instead of my long-winded openings that I always do for my threads, I'll keep it simple so you aren't reading a novel.

I am interested in this craziness as of late, and I feel like now is a great time to see what Busse and their kin are all about.

What should be my first purchase?

Im looking for something smaller, really nothing more than 3.5-4" since I cant really get away with anything bigger out here. When I get back to the states, I'll probably give in for something with some more meat on it.

I love the handles that some Scrapyards have on them, but I can never find models that are small enough or that are sold anymore that i like (I am still in love with the Muk).

Price isn't really an issue, so any suggestions are a-ok with me. If it were, I probably wouldnt be posting on this side of the forum :D

The above stipulations are really the only left and right lateral limits I have on the matter, so please ladies and gents, if you have any suggestions at all please let me know.

Thank you all for your time, hopefully, I can spend some time in this side of the forum for a change.

Take care,

-Jim

I prefer to carry the AMS LE personally because of where I live and that it's a little more...overall "friendly", but any version of the Anniversary Mean Street would make a handy little blade. I love mine!

^Shoot, we have a winner. I think am picking up a Mean Street..as long as they can ship to me, that is, hehe.

I'm thinking one with a Muddy Coating with Black Paper handles. They seem to be a nice little knife that's big enough for anything reasonable you need it for.

First Busse? ... TGLB!

If I could get away with having one out here, I would no doubt get one. The most we can have however is about 3-3.5" in blade length. I'll probably pick one up when I head back. I really want one, or one like it. Maybe my next Busse? We'll have to see :D

Also, I have heard a ton about INFI, what makes it so special? Is it's description that Busse gives spot on? I'm no steel snob, but I can't wrap my head around a steel being all of these great things all at once. I'm not trying to bait out an argument, I'm rather curious to be honest. Whether or not it's all true, I will be one happy son of a gun with it I'm sure, I'm used to 1095, 01 and S30V. I don't need much to keep me happy.

I'll second the 411, although I do like the AMS. But if you are so sold on the mudder handle, as am I, then heck, get both!

There is actually a Muk for sale in the classified section that you may want to check out. Regardless of what you choose, good luck with the search.

Price is no object? I've got a (fill in the blank) along with a small collection of Jerry Busse's pocket lint. I'll let it all go for $1 million. Not a penny less.

(Do you know what it takes to sneak in at nigth and steal his pocket lint???? DO YOU!?)

I still find MS variations very handle-heavy. I love the look. I dislike using them. :(

OP- Did you ask what is special abut INFI?
You will soon find out.

Welcome to the INFI addict support forum! ;)

Or if you're looking for something a little different, I'm a big fan of the LMS: :D

I can do this in one word.
Malleability.
Other steels dull because of microscopic chips coming off the edge; INFI will bend or deform rather than chip, resulting in no loss of edge. Realigning on a smooth chef's steel, large screwdriver, ceramic rod, random smooth hard surface, even chopping wood will restore your edge without removing steel.
I don't have a PHD in chemistry or metallurgy, but my good buddy GPB does.

Just buy all you can, you will eventually and prices have never been this low.
Enjoy the ride!

I would suggest considering the Busse Basic 4. Started carrying it to hunt last year and was very pleased with it. Comfortable slip-free grip. A few backward strokes on a ceramic rod brings it right back to sharp. Fits very well in the specops combat master mini as a sheath option. I have a SYCKO 411, but the Busse is one I would not get rid of.

The AMS is a great small knife. I am absolutely in love with mine. Good luck in your search!

Any short Busses will do you right. May I suggest that you pay attention to handle length for an EDC knife.

You're likely to EDC in a high ride type sheath ( for discretion's sake)..... You don't need a handle that'll rub against your side/ ribs. Depending on the size hands that you have, a 3 1/2 to 4 inches handle is ideal.... At least to me.

Just something to think about.... Keep that handle short.:)
