Hello my fellow Porchenburgers,

Some things you can't buy: Friendship, community, this knife...

I feel like anyone who hangs around the porch for very long knows that I have been inordinately fortunate in the Porch Generosity department. That said, I suspect that many would be surprised how (relatively) few knives I actually have (I mean, few for a knife knut who has been gifted and purchased many knives over the years, not few for a normal person). I hardly ever sell knives though, it has been years since I sold a knife (and that was one that I had purchased with a pre-existing agreement to sell it after a review period). I'm not sure that I have ever sold a traditional knife. I have found traditional knives to be ideal for gifts. There are always people (kids, adults, Porchenburgers, etc.) who need a nice knife, and when you have been given much, it is good to give much. But this is just a preface to why I am giving away the knife I am giving away now.

For years I had not entered into the never-ending Box-o-Knives GAWs, because I didn't have knives that I was willing to part with that I thought were good enough to add to the box, but then some knives were added to the box that I thought would be tempting enough to inspire some hard choices in my collection. In round 47 I was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the winners of one of 315 315 's "cleansing boxes". I'm grateful to be spared the burden of actually dealing with the full box, but I thought that I would take this opportunity to share the knife I had decided to add as my extra-special addition to the box (if I had won the main box).

A few years back (four years! Where does the time go?) I won one of a series of GAWs hosted by L leghog . The one I won was for a 1982 World's Fair popcorn-stag coffin-handled Hen and Rooster. It is beautiful. It is a style I haven't really seen elsewhere. And it is a knife you just can't buy anywhere. And so I think it is a perfect knife to give away. You can't buy one of these, but I can give you one.

I really like this knife, but I never carry it. I felt that it would be good to continue the spirit of giving that let me have it for a while. Here are the rules:

1) Tell me about a knife you were given (it doesn't have to be a long story)
2) Be a porch regular (50+ posts here on the subforum)
3) Make sure I can legally send you the knife (I am willing to ship this one internationally, but I'd hate for customs to nab it)
4) (And this is most important) if you decide to part with this knife, please don't sell it. It's a gift, and it should remain a gift.

I was there at 8 years old and have wanted that knife ever since!!! I got the brass handled Parker knife then.

I was given a small Kershaw knife by Deacon Fred Chappalear at church when I was in the 6th grade. I carry it on rare occasion, reminds me of his smile and handshake as we talked knives every week for years!

I'm in, and thank you, it's a beautiful knife!

About seven years ago my wife and I hit a financial snag and I had to sell some of my really good knives fast, here on BFC, to raise some money. One of them was a GEC red stag model that went for a considerable sum of money. Once the buyer paid for it and I asked for his address, he said, "Don't bother, keep the money and the knife. It means too much to you!" Needless to say, I still have the knife and would never part with it for any price, now. This blade brother does not frequent the forum any longer, but I hope he knows that I am still very grateful!

Wow!!! That is an absolutely beautiful knife!!! I so badly want to say “I’m in,” but I will refrain as I probably would only fondle it and admire.

I was given my father’s lifetime Ruko lockback a couple years back, I remember him doing everything with it since I was young. My father is still around, but it is still a very important piece in my collection.

If it is allowed I would enter for sbh06 sbh06 for his kindness and friendship.

A fantastic GAW and very generous abbydaddy abbydaddy

Wow, another generous GAW!

I have a knife that I was just gifted! Well, it was just completed per se 🤪. It is a Boker Advent Calendar Knife. It took about two weeks to complete the knife but I have another 9 days to go to open all the calendar boxes. I don't know what more is left in there but waiting in anticipation!

My wife gifted this for me for Christmas, and this knife is very special because...my wife said to me not long ago, that she will NEVER buy me a knife, even a utility or a kitchen knife. She hates knives (Blaspheme!!! 🤬🤬🤬) and she say I can buy it better anyways 🤣

Well, I reminded her that this one has a lot of Christmas Spirit (She is German and Christmas is like their biggest holiday) with the advent calendar and I will be very happy with it 👍👍 This is a sad year for us as we cancelled going over to Germany to see her family for Christmas due to the pandemic.

Here is a picture for your reference...It's a large lockback trapper and comes with wooden and G10 handle scales (I think...more could be in the calendar).

I can vouch that the knife, if I won, will NEVER be sold.

Happy Holidays and thanks for the GAW opportunity!

In 2015, I had a signature on my posts that said something along the lines of, "I'm looking for my youngest child's "birth knife"". This is the GEC that came off the production line the day he was born. At least the best I and others could figure. black mamba black mamba reached out and basically gave the knife to my boy. Being that it is a yellow rose cattle baron 53, it would be impossible to find these days. Thomas's birth knife is made of unobtainium. Thank you black mamba black mamba . I hope this works. I've tried to link a 2016 video of Thomas as he describes his knife. I think you all will enjoy it.

First Rate GAW because it has to do with altruism

Over the years I've received much help from people on the Forum both in the Americas and Europe and I can include the OP in this :) I've done a few GAWS, had some satisfying trades and been lucky to receive unexpected presents or kindness . Many of the people who've given me knives are no longer active here and whilst that's sad; the memory stays; and sometimes people just want to retreat from Forums, understand that.

I asked after an Ebony Talon from a member in Canada, and was shocked in a good way, when he sent it to me.

If I win I would like the knife to be sent to another Stag enthusiast Pt-Luso Pt-Luso who is an active contributor here and a very polite and dignified gent.

Enjoy your Christmas Season all, Will

Very cool GAW. I'm in.

Upon the eve of my first chance to go deer hunting, when I was 13, I was given a Buck 102 as an early Christmas gift. Still have it, it now resides in my gun/knife cabinet after cleaning a many a deer in my early hunting life. Even after all these years, it still has the blue DYMO embossed label with my name on it.

Edit to add the picture.

Awesome GAW abbydaddy abbydaddy !! Very generous of you. Count me in!

A fine standing porch member reached out to me a while back and said they noticed I didn’t have a BF ‘20 ram horn viper. At the time I didn’t feel that I contributed enough to the porch to consider myself eligible for that knife. The member sent me one out of the kindness of his heart and wanted to remain anonymous, which I found really cool. I will never part with it. The porch rocks!!!

You will all recognize the giver of the knife given to me because he is one of the more generous members here among a host of generous folks. John gave me a Frost drop point as an extra gift when I sharpened and modified his bullnose—it was my first time doing it for someone else and I made a pretty obvious mistake but John was very gracious and didn’t even complain—a true example of grace: getting good that you don’t deserve. Thanks JohnDF JohnDF ! If I win, I’d like John to receive the knife.

Thanks Coleman, I consider myself blessed to count you as a friend.

I received this as a VERY generous gift from another member on this forum in January. It is one of my favorite (and most cherished) knives.

This summer I attended a funeral and a small CIVIVI pouch containing a new GEC Beer Scout, GEC 62 half congress and an 05 that all disappeared there. I was devestated! Like going to a beloved aunt’s funeral wasn’t bad enough. I posted about my losses on a GEC site and a fellow member anonymously purchased, and had sent to me, a brand new 62. I’ll never know who he was, but am eternally grateful to him and that 62 will never be sold or traded. That made me feel so good and said so much about the folks on here and other knife sites! I hate losing the beer scout like crazy but someday I’ll find another or a 15 cap lifter to replace it.

I'm in, thanks.
It was a gifted knife that brought me onto the porch....

I asked a question about whether the GEC production knives were worth the money (I kind of chuckle about this now...because it was back when they would sit on shelves at dealers forever!!!).

Flymon sent me a 23 yellow Rose. I was hooked!!!

What a beautiful knife abbydaddy abbydaddy and a very generous GAW.
Early today I made a post asking Gary Peregrin Peregrin and Rachel r8shell r8shell about a little Boker lock back, and mentioned that I may have to pick one up sometime. Not long after that I received a message from Mike mbkr mbkr offering to send me that very knife in stag! 6BC2FAC3-6355-4313-A8DD-23F62FBE4BAC.jpeg
The generosity of the Porch is amazing. I would like to enter on behalf of Mike mbkr mbkr .

Jon, I’m in please, but if I win I’d like the knife to go to black mamba black mamba and here’s the reason why. Over 4 years ago I stumbled on to some other forum where a guy mentioned he loved his TC Barlow. He posted a picture of a 2 bladed TC that was just gorgeous. I was a traditional kind of guy and thought that’s the kind of knife I could drop in my pocket forever. Little did I know at the time how difficult the task would be. While searching I ran across this forum. I’m pretty sure my first post was a “Want to buy TC Barlow”. I’m sure it drew a lot of laughs. Not knowing the ins and outs of society on the porch I continued to participate. Early on Jeff reached out to me and gave me a couple of tips on some quality knives. He didn’t treat me as someone new, he was genuine in his advice and I’ve always appreciated that. I never found a TC Barlow, but I’ve picked up many other knives over the last few years that have kept me interested and participating here. Had it not been for the kindness of people like Jeff I may have abandoned this forum.

Which brings me to the knife I was gifted, also by a very generous person, Will Power Will Power . He actually had to offer me the knife twice before I accepted it. I wasn’t sure what to think at first. I had been posting about the Old Frontier my Grandad had carried since the 70’s. I can remember him using it to make a whistle out of a willow branch on the banks of the Mississippi River when he’d come back to Wisconsin. Grandad had to go into a nursing home at 96 and lived to 102. When he went in the home he had been found on the floor of his house and had been there for a couple of days. He had his Frontier in his pocket and it got wet (you can figure out why) and was completely rusted. Will Power Will Power offered me the Ivory colored Frontier so I had a functioning knife like Grandad’s. I was taken aback at the generosity and to this day appreciate the knife more than I probably will ever convey.

We may all get a little testy at times but I will say the people on the porch are some of the most kind and helpful I’ve seen on a forum. So I’ll shut up now and show a knife picture…

When you did your passaround of a Frontier Stockman it was my first time ever actually carrying a Stockman. I remember really appreciating the story behind why you were hosting the passaround, and finding the Frontier quite a handy knife.
