Gladius Handling Characteristics?

Those of you who have one, how does it handle?

Is it fastish or is it to heavy for that?

Would you say (for the sake of argument) that it would make a good zombie blade?
 
The Gladius was designed by the Romans to be used as a thrusting weapon in formation from behind their shields. Zombie dispatch techniques generally require a blade more suited to slashing.

Err....the gladius is one heck of a chopper mate. Try it out and u'll see what I'm talking about. It is true though that the gladius has one helluva pointy head, a very strong one at that.
 
i wonder if i can get one of those riot shields (or make one) to use with my gladius.... i think that would make a BAD ASS combination for the Zombocalypse

Ive owned several gladius in different variations though I've only used 1. They are wicked cool and I plan on getting other one when I get some money.

I used a standard CG one with micarta scales. The G10 one I had was more slippery than the micarta ones.

But anyways the gladius is a monster. I'm 6'2 and 180lbs and workout regularly and the gladius swung me more than I swung it. I think if you ever were to make contact with a zombie you would take a limb off in one stroke. It's a beast of a blade and very, very heavy. If I were to design one just for killing zombies it would be about .21 thick so it would be faster and easier to swing.

Also keep in mind technique is everything. I tried to chop a hanging deer carcass in half with my scrapizash and barley cut the skin. Id wager someone who knew what they were doing with a sword could have cut it in half or come close.

I'd love to Learn how to properly wield a short sword.

Anyways if you are a big dude you should be able to straight up annihilate thinks with the gladius. It's stabbing ability is probably unmatched by anything out there aside from multi thousand dollar customs.

its about .4 thick, or it seems like it, and twice as wide as the AK47/Ruck/Waki/Rucki/Scrapizashi, so its slower but carries a lot more momentum with it. I can't control it to my own satisfaction with one hand, but it has a hand and a half worth of grip
 
Ask Garth! Honestly INFI is so tough it could be .155 thick and you'd never break it. .333 is overkill. Thin is almost always better.
 
i shot Garth an email asking him if there was any way to lighten the Gladius up a bit. Maybe he can come up with something awesome
 
You could handle both if we could meet up somewhere where the people wouldn't call homeland security. :p

I have a Rat Waki and Rucki as well.

The wife is always looking for an excuse to visit Ikea again,...........
