Gladius Handling Characteristics?

There's a lot of mysticism around the art and discipline of using a katana efficiently, while there isn't much to the image of a gladius and other weapons from those ancient European and Mediterranean civilizations. I don't know why--perhaps Asia in general is just more exotic and to us, so it's easier to say things without seeking confirmation--but if it's true that you'd need years and years of training to wield a katana, I'd stick with the gladius.
 
i have a great deal of training using a bokken which transfers nicely to a real katana. I am by no means an expert but Katana is no stranger to me
 
When the Gladius was released last year at Blade, there were some threads on the Sword forum about it. Some folks felt that the handling of the Busse interpretation left something to be desired. Go search there for comments.
 
Resinguy, thanks a lot for that heads up. There's a lot of info there that i hadn't heard

It seems that the one being referenced there is a little different than the fullered version that was produced. From what i've found, the production model is around 36 ounces, so hopefully it'll be a lot more lively than the 3# one they were describing

Either way, i'll love it... if it's too heavy, i'll just have to lift more weights :P
 
As dockbox said, the Gladius is designed as a thrusting weapon. Like a boxer, jabs are your best friend in that fight. I am 6'6" and 270 lbs. The Gladius is kinda difficult to handle slashing and bringing back for a quick second strike.
 
id love to see a comparison pic, or any pic really, of that flying MOASK thing of yours. Always makes me smile :)

man i love your collection... i will have the AK and the Gladius... not sure if i'll keep both, or just the one that i like best
