Gladius Leather Sheath???

i have only seen 2 gladius sheaths on the net, both kydex, would you get a kydex or custom leather steelnut?

Is anyone really using a Tek-lok on their Gladius?

Anyone who would carry it cross draw or saber carry like a sword is carried, certainly would.

Here is another option;

cool, nice selection of colors too, so does the AK have the same dimensions as the swamprat 29" sword? would it fit the sheath of the swamprat?

what about a combat grade gladius? would you pay 175 for a leather sheath or is that getting too close to call in your opinion

those are all cool pics. I think whatever sheaths are available for this sword, there should be some custom option for the arm/ shoulder strap, and it should be removable> I could see there being different scenarios where you would want to carry it under arm or on back, like if you had a pistol holstered or you were climbing and needed good leg mobility. This might be stupid, but what do you think about a double companion sheath for an AK and Gladius combo, with the gladius riding on top of the Ak. I know its going far, but if you could make the sheaths tie together as companion, or untie them to make them separate with a dangler and removable shoulderstrap, i think you would have the ultimate sheath in regards to a flexible and modular design. what do you guys think??? Armorall leather also makes kydex reinforced leather sheaths which is supposed to be strong as hell and has the classic look of leather

Thats the nice thing about all the leather workers here..... they can make it how you want! If you want a double rig for two Gladius's and have a piggyback set up for a sus scrofa on one and a FSH on the other... so be it!

I didnt think 175 was bad for a leather sheath for an AK with dangler and a removable shoulder strap. Thats what I was quoted I just know that I would like it modular and flexible, who wouldnt want that? Thanks for the advice, ill look into it a little more and let you guys know if i hear anything

-An armed man is a citizen, and unarmed man is a subject.

I figured that still kind of applied to knives too

I had made a leather sheath for my swamp rat waki out of ~4mm think cow hide.
I think leather sheath is too soft for blade around that length.

I think it is on the cusp of being suitable for leather, I can always border the edge of the sheath with thick rawhide to create a rigid boundary , plastic sheaths are weak laterally too( it wont break but it will allow your blade to be bent) but this guy at armoral leather will do a leather kyde sandwich with leather on both sides for like $35 more

rega, I would caution you regarding one thing. Do not assume that Busse knives will necessarily continue to increase in value. In the last several years the output of Busse Combat has gone up substantially. The old days of more customers than knives, driving resale prices up, may be over. Some new models may continue to appreciate, but it would be a mistake to expect it. Just enjoy them for what they are, but don't treat them like investments.

It really depends on several things. The Maker, the leather itself (there are huge differences in quality out there) and the method used in making the item.

ChuddyBear makes some killer leather sheaths for the big knives. I'd guess he may have a Gladius on the way too!

Yup, no Galdius love in the leather household. :(

To answer the snap question, all my sheaths are lined, no metal touches the knife, no worries there. :)

The kydex/fusion is a sure fire way to stiffen up a long sheath/scabbard for sure. But solid leather isnt floppy in any form or fashion. Plenty stiff for a short sword.

My first foray into sheath making was for Medieval re-creationists back in the nineties, some of the swords those guys carried around were amazing.

what do you line your sheaths with to protect them, felt or something like that? Thanks for the advice too resinguy, i am not assuming that all will go up in value, but sometimes when i justify buying an expensive piece that i really dont need but want, ill tell myself that if i keep it in good shape, if i had to i could at least get my money back out of it. Like if my ac goes out and i need to buy an $8000 dollar complete unit, i might need to sell an AK and i would hope to get what I paid out of it, i understand though, you prob wont get rich quick flipping Busse's

The lining is a much thinner veggie tanned leather, I normally use 2 ounce weight. :)

Here is the leather sheath I make for Gladius.....

This one is long gone.....

That thick of leather might be, but I have no idea how thick that is.

I use 10 oz plus leather for all my sheaths, even the little ones (overkill for those).

I almost bought a roll of "armor" leather. Man that stuff was so thick! It was probably 2x as thick and heavy as the 10 oz stuff. I just did not think I would be able to punch it for stitching!

I have a leather sheath in house and its the bomb. I have others on the way and they will no doubt be bomb proof too:cool:

I have some killer kydex for my other swords and will be getting some for my Glads too.

THey both have pro's, but very little con's here:)

That armor bend leather is extremely stiff and thick, but for armoring it cant be beat, especially on the outside leg and ribs. Friggin rattan sword swung by a rather large man can really put the sting on, the SCA is a great place for those who like pain. :p For those who dont, we use lots of padding. ;)
