Gladius - Suitable for Zombies?

I've read a lot of posts suggesting that a Gladius is really only useful as a zombie dispatcher, but I have my doubts. It seems like it would be really good for stabbing and disemboweling and such, but with it's short blade it doesn't seem so well suited to decapitating, and it doesn't seem like it would really have the weight forward in the blade to be an effective skull splitter. I think for the zombies, I'd rather have my AK. What do y'all think?

AK over the Gladius? Yeah. The extra blade length is nice.

But the Gladius would do the job too, you get have to get a little closer. And if the Gladius ever becomes too dull to chop through a zombie neck, at least it's still got the weight and size to crush a skull.

Is it weird that we're taking this somewhat seriously? ;)

I think a Kantana type blade is definately going to be faster in hand or battle and have a longer reach. ;)

As you should. I have found mine to be exceptional at cleaning dirt out from under my fingernails. It also was very handy in re-sizing my XXXXXL Busse t-shirt. I only needed an XL.

Mine will become useful when my granddaughter starts dating.

"Come over and meet my grandpa."

I think if you used the Gladius with a shield then it would beat the AK hands down. If you only have a sword then I'm going with the AK but only for length.

Or, AK in your strong arm and the Gladius in the other. Like a wakizashi.

The gladius was a stabbing tool. The chopping power of the AK is more desirable. DESTROY THE BRAIN.

gripped at the base of the handle you'll find the gladius is plenty blade heavy.

If your looking for those qualities I'd go with the kz before I went with the ak47 - the ak47 has terrible grind geometry and it's pretty neutral in it's balance. When I say terrible edge geometry, I'm not just throwing that around - it has a 50% convex saber grind and it's not zero edge. that's a terrible grind geometry for cutting, it's made to take heavy. Yes a lot of the katana's were low saber grinds and thicker than the ak47, but they were true zero edge.

Well, being pretty short, I'd have to go with an AK. Don't want those zombies to get too close!

When I get mine I'll have to do a test between it and the Waki.... I have a few Zombies chained up in the basement I could use ;-)

Besides the obvious point of this thread (the chick dressed in leather) I'd have to say that the gladius would make a superior weapon, seeing how most zombies would be in urban environment, a lot of time you will not have enough space to utilize the reach advantage of the AK47. Gladius however s double edged meaning you will be able todo harm to zombies on your back cuts as well. So when you are checking the zombie Mormon basement (no religious hate here, they just stock up on food for 3 weeks or so, and since they are zombies anyway, its a shame to let all that preparation go to waste.) You would rather have the gladius.

I think I've just been told! :p:p:p
