Gladius - Suitable for Zombies?

Mine will become useful when my granddaughter starts dating.

"Come over and meet my grandpa."

Smart Grandpa....

I'm gonna have my Gladius in the right hand and S&W 686+ in my left hand when my daughter starts dating. I can nail him far away and close in... and that goes for zombies too:thumbup:;)

Of the 3 INFI swords I have, Ruck, Banned AK47 and Gladius, I would go with the Gladius for zombies and anything else softer/squishier than hard wood. The weight and thickness alone make for severe blunt force trauma even if you miss or mess up and use it flatways like a baseball bat.:o The Banned AK with a zero edge would be choice number two and the Ruck would be third for me, even though it is the most fun to carry and beat on due to it's smaller size/weight/concealment. That is of course after I am out of bullets and cornered.

I do not know - length isn't everything. I think some have shown that technique is as important. Zombie killing can be an art form :)

Don't you mean like a cricket bat? I don't think baseball bats have ever been shown to be effective against zombies.

Remember, you've got to remove the head or destroy the brain. Breaking an arm or a fracturing few ribs isn't going to get you anywhere.

But isn't that a Xiphos? That guy doesn't look very Roman to me.

Yeah, Xiphos that is. Bronze like color, shape and guy is Brad Pitt in skirt. Since the film is called Troy that has to be Xiphos.. Man if Busse ever makes Kopis or Falcatta, man that would be alot meaner than Gladius IMHO.

Still, Gladius is homerun IMHO. If I would have enough money now, I'd buy one in heartbeat

It's about technique - I'm not Roman either, but I was Roamin at Blade - That's how I ended up ordering a Gladius :D

Besides - I already have enough AK's

So who will do a test to see how efficient a zombie dispatcher this is? Watermelons would make good heads I reckon.

I've read a lot of posts suggesting that a Gladius is really only useful as a zombie dispatcher, but I have my doubts. It seems like it would be really good for stabbing and disemboweling and such, but with it's short blade it doesn't seem so well suited to decapitating, and it doesn't seem like it would really have the weight forward in the blade to be an effective skull splitter. I think for the zombies, I'd rather have my AK. What do y'all think?

The Gladius would be just fine at decapitation, and at skull splitting. Especially zombies, which are not prone to wearing protective gear and helmets and such.

Give me a gladius without a sharpened edge at all, and I could still split a human skull wide open.

It would also be capable of stabbing through the skull from almost any angle if you had a good aim and strength behind the thrust.

Just saying.

People vastly overstate human bones and flesh as being resistant to some things. Give me an icepick and I can poke it through a human skull no problem at all.

The human skull can be crushed with the bare hand, by some one who has trained.

there have been some real sweet programs hooking up sensors to people trained in martial arts. Most of these people can strike with a hammer fist with way more strength than is required to crush a human skull, as measured by pressure sensors and also by crushing coconuts, which have a much higher crush resistance then human skulls.

some have shown that technique is as important

As much as I enjoyed some of the Resident Evil movies, a super-powered human should NOT have to make multiple cuts with a good kukri to decapitate a foe. (Not when little bitty guys from Nepal can do it without any problems.) The Gladius really looks like a hand-and-a-half sword, handle-wise, while the Waki and AK, despite a short overall length, are more true two-handed swords. Using two hands can make an incredible difference in how effectively a sword can slash, and yes, a good push cut or draw cut with a sharp sword can decapitate.

well, the Gladius is shaped a lot like a sharpened Cricket Bat.

and well all know how well the Cricket Bat worked for Shaun, so I think - yes.
