glass on a platen

I would much appreciate some direction on how to attach glass to my platen. I'm a little spooked about it falling of while i'm working and have shards of glass fly everywhere.

I have used glass now for a few years and never have had a problem. I use JB weld. I smear on with a Popsicle stick and make no attempt to squeeze out the excess. When I change to a fresh piece I use a heat gun and slowly heat up the platen and glass till it pops loose.

I glue mine on with Acraglass, clamp it up nice and let it dry 24 hours.

when it starts to get a little worn and chipped I replace the glass. To remove I just heat it a little bit with a heat gun or propane torch, wack it with a hammer and scrape all the pieces into the trash.

No matter what method or device/material/adhseive/etc you use to attach your new platen "glass", I would advise welding a little "shelf" onto the bottom of the platen for the glass to sit on.
If you really lean on your steel one day and heat that liner up to the point where it weakens the grip, you could have a disaster on your hands.
No doubt at least a dozen guys could jump in here and say how they've never had a problem, but it only takes once to really ruin your day.
It's a simple little task, and I did it just to stack the deck in my favor after being advised to do so.
I would recommend it to everyone.

Ed Caffrey told me to use Accraglass as well, he said he tried using epoxy, I believe it was, and the platen fell off and got sucked into the belt, ruining a small contact wheel, the belt, and I would bet whatever pair of pants he was wearing at the time!
