Wow,
My wife got me a Glen Campbell CD for Christmas. Funny, I don't remember asking for it, or even bringing him up to her. Sure brought back a simpler (?) time to me. I think I forgot how popular he was in the early 70's. I remember having three channels on tv and it seemed as if he was always on two of them. Anyone ever see him live? :)

I like his music, especially the older stuff. Wichita Lineman is one of my all time favorites.
My mom and dads, neighbors dad, plays golf with him when he is at his home on the McKenzie river here in Oregon. I guess he is a real down to earth person

I remember him marrying and then divorcing Tanya Tucker (I think), and a well-circulated mugshot of him in a drunken stupor.

Glen was a decent picker and had the good taste to feature John Hartford on his TV show...
However, I caught him in some inconsistencies...When interviewed by "Guitar Player" magazine, he talked about sight-reading from saxophone sheet music, which was a popular exercise for jazz guys.
However, when interviewed on Johnny Carson and asked if he read music, he came up with the old "not enough to hurt my playing." line...

No, never seen him live, but would love too.

A couple years back CMT showed a concert of the hundred greatest country songs. Steve Wariner, another hot shot Nashville picker and so-so country singer was the band leader for the night. When Campbell played Galveston, Wariner was on a Danelectro Longhorn (for the really low guitar notes in the song). The two of them ripped up the solo on that one! If I could find the live version of that I'd be a happy fellow.

Hell, I think Glen was a pretty good actor too, although no one agrees with me. He got a bad rap for his role in True Grit, but I think he did a fine job in it.

Seems like back then things were "gentle on my mind". Not so much anymore, maybe it happens with getting a little older.

+1 on the John Hartford reference. Its funny how music can cause a person to get nostalgic.
