I went to the local range and shot a few. The one that fit my hand the best was the Glock 17, however, the range only has a few guns to try. What are some other 9mm handguns in the same price range that I should look at, besides the Glock? Thanks in advance for your help.

To many, the Glock 17 is the Gold Standard in the full size 9mm class.

But in that same genre, consider also the Sprinfield-Armory XD-M (maybe better ergos, grip safety, other doodads like loaded chamber indicator) and Beretta 92 FS (big, heavy, durable, reliable, soft shooter, current military issue). Also maybe the SIG 226 or 229. Big fan base there.

In terms of weight, capacity and proven reliability, though, the G17 is hard to beat.

Also look at the Generation 4 Glock 19 it is a little smaller than the 17.Carrying concealed is easier. I own both the Glock 22 and 23 models and love them. I am an armorer for them and there is no easier pistol to work on.

if you plan on doing any of practical shooting sports go for the slightly longer G34 (you get a better trigger out of the box) or the M&P 5inch (Pro?)

As mentioned above, the G19 is the better choice for concealability. As also mentioned however, the G34 is awesome. The G34 is hands down the most accurate and reliable handgun I've ever owned.

I took a two-pronged (and more expensive) approach, as 9mm seems to be my caliber. My G34 is my range gun, plinker, and hunting sidearm, while my carry gun is a 1911-framed Springfield EMP. Very tight and accurate little package that is set up with great features out of the box (Trijicon night sights, ambi safety, pronounced beavertail, etc.). Check out the EMP if you're looking for something a little smaller.

All are great guns. I've heard it said that Kimbers are what you show your friends, but Glocks are what you show your enemies.

I have a G17 & G19. I like the 19 better. Today as a matter of fact i'm picking up my new G26, and will have to get back to you on that.......

If you like the Glock, get the Glock. Once you get one, you'll probably end up getting a couple more eventually anyway. I like the 17 a lot, but I own a 19 and a 21SF. For me, the 19 may be the best "all around" handgun there is. I do want a 17 too, but I don't think it does anything any better than the 19. Longer sight radius, slightly higher capacity, that's it. The tradeoff is in size and weight.

You can't go wrong with a Glock. There is a reason why they're as popular as they are.

I also have a g19 gen 3 and love it. It's the prefect size. I looked into getting the gen 4, but could not part with the the one I have..

Glock 34
It has a longer sight radius and better ballistics. The cutout on the slide allows for more efficient cooling as well and gets the weight the same as a 17. The longer barrel also accommodates a light without it protruding beyond the muzzle.

If you like the G17, then try the G19 and the G34.

I'd also suggest the Smith & Wesson M&P line of pistols.

I've got the TLR-1 on mine. I need to get better sights, however. The stock plastic adjustable rear sight in particular is kinda rinky dink. I'm thinking of going fixed Trijicon or Meprolight. What do you have on your 34?

I've had a few Glocks and I like the 17 the best. The 19 is better for carry but the 17 has a bigger and more comfortable(IMO) grip.

What are your plans for the gun???? I love my Glock 26 it's my concealed carry favorite but the 19 fits my hand the best and I shoot the best with it. Another thing to consider is if you get the .40s&w 23 etc etc then all you have to do is buy an extra 9mm barrel for around $100 then you can quickly swap barrels out and have different options. The .40 s&w mags and everything will work just fine with the 9mm so it's truly a simple switch. Much cheaper to plink with 9mm but you still have the option of the hotter .40 round. Just something to think about. Another awesome 9mm is the Ruger SR9 or SR9c just make sure if it's the SR9 it's a newer version cause the trigger sucked on the first ones. Also you can't go wrong with the Beretta M9 it's what our military is using to this day. I believe the 92fs is the civilian version but it's essentially the same exact pistol. You really can't go wrong with Glock reliability though and it's even more important with a Glock to follow the 3 most basic rules of gun safety that everybody should have drilled into their heads before they even touch any firearm!!

I have a 17, had a 19. The 17 fits my hand like a glove. It's a natural point and shoot gun for me. Keep one in a pistol safe next to the bed.

I tried the g19, but the grip just didn't work for me, even though it seems like a great gun. Interesting suggestions - thanks everyone.

Can't go wrong with the 17. It's my most reliable and trusted sidearm. Another that is worth considering is the FN FNP9.

Smith and wesson m&p series are great shooters

My brother has one. His was worked on by David Bowie of bowietactical. In addition to a 4 pound trigger job and the stipling, he had David install a Leupy reflex sight after milling away the slide. BUI are still on the gun as you can see.

If you like all steel guns you should take a look at the CZ-75B.

Or Jericho 941 (based off CZ 75) which is made by the same company that makes the Desert Eagle. (otherwise known as Baby Eagle, Uzi Eagle, Baby Desert Eagle). :D Here's mine.

I love the 941 because most people at the range don't know wth it is. Everyone knows what a Glock is. People ask me about it all the time.
