Glock 17 or ???

If the glock 17 fits your hand and you like the sight picture then buy it. Your confidence will be higher in that firearm and you will probably shoot it better. Owner of glock 17 and 37.

I offer another vote for Glock. I was a gun buyer back in the mid-1980s when Glock came to this country. The company I worked for was one of the first distributors for Glock. I personally owned one of the first Glock 19 handguns ever brought into this country. Over the years, while working in the gun industry, serving in the US Marine Corps, and being a police officer, I have owned or fired nearly every commercially available firearm you can name in the next five minutes...

So, with all that said, I believe that you will be best served with a Glock 9 mm, from the 17/19/26 family.

Think of a handgun as a "platform" rather than an individual item. When I say platform, I mean you will buy magazines, ammunition, sights, lights, lasers, et cetera. With a Glock, there is a dizzying number of accessories you can add to the gun if you see fit.

Reasons to buy a Glock 9 mm are these:

1. 9 mm ammo is one of the cheapest centerfire handgun calibers you can buy.

2. Glock 17 (17 shot) magazines can be purchased for less than $20 from many different sources. Remember that you can use G17 mags in all 9mm Glocks. Also, while the 9mm cartridge may not have the reputation the 45ACP enjoys, remember the Glock can hold 34 rounds (with a 33 round magazine) in a dead reliable configuration that is still relatively compact.

Make no mistake, if you really need to fire in anger, having 34 rounds of 9mm hollow points on tap trumps having only 8 (M1911 platform) or 6 (most medium frame revolvers)

3. The Glock 17/19 has a reputation for being one of, if not the most, reliable firearm under every possible adverse condition. Don't take my word for it; the Internet is full of articles about torture tests against every other kind of semi-automatic firearm. Research for yourself...

4. Few firearms are easier to equip with a light, or laser and light combination.

5. Consider this scenario, and then do your own research... If you had to walk into a gun store, pick any semi auto pistol on display, purchase it, load it with HOLLOW POINTS, put it in your holster and walk out into the world, knowing that at any moment you may have to use that pistol to defend yourself or your family... Which would you choose?

Me? Glock 17 or 19 with no hesitation.

I love my Glock 19 and H&K p2000 both in 9mm but I'm looking forward to shooting the new Kimber Solo. I just love the way this little 9mm pistol has the 1911 ergos.

Give the gen4 glocks a go to if you haven't. I didn't like the angle on the gen3 17 but the gen4 feels great to me. I own a 19 gen3, gen4 and a 26 gen3 and the 17 in gen4.

Also look up the glock gssf program if you want one for 450 :)

I own 2 glocks. model 21 and model 30 both in .45 cal. I carried a glock 17 for 5 years as a duty gun. I talked to the range officer and with all the weapons and qualifications and thousands of rounds put through the glock pistols he can count on one hand the pistols that had a problem. He wished we never went to another manufacturer. I trust my life with a Glock pistol... they work every time.

My next choice would be a SIG 226 in 9mm very nice shooters.

Get the one that you feel you shoot the best and fits in your hand. What I mean is. The pistol that you pick up and it feels like an extension of yourself then that is the one for you. Shoot a bunch.... as many as you can... try em again pick the best 2 or 3 and shoot em again .... the one for you will almost call you.... when you are there you will understand.

good luck with whatever you choose.

If you what somting that’s more of a concealed carry gun, go whit the glock 19. I carry the glock 17 ever day as a service pistol, it’s hard to conceal when in civilian attire, the only good way I have foud that works is whit an inside the wast band holster. The good thing about the G 17 is all of the accessories available for it, high cap. Magazines holster, etc.

I'd look at
Springfield XDM (19+1) I have a XD45 Tactical (5" barrel) and absolutely love it.
FNH FNP9
CZ 75 SP01 Phantom

I prefer my Ruger SR9 to my Glock 17.

In my opinion the Ruger just feels tens times better in my hand than my Glock does. I can shoot each one equally well, but when it comes to comfort the Ruger is where it's at. Both have been equally reliable so that's not an issue for me.

You never said what you are using it for? Or I missed it? Carry, home,or woods? All? Defence from humans or critters in the woods?Or all around city shooter at the range?

I personally own a Glock 23 Gen4 and I absolutely love it. Fits my hand like a glove.

It would primarily be a home gun, and something to use up my time and $ at the range. :D

Try another range? If they have more stock rental? But a G17 would be good. 9mm decent round price and effective wise. Not going into the woods or I would suggest a 10mm. JMO. I would look into the G19 if you ever plan on a CWL. A little smaller. But g17 is a good gun jmo

Or Jericho 941 (based off CZ 75) which is made by the same company that makes the Desert Eagle. (otherwise known as Baby Eagle, Uzi Eagle, Baby Desert Eagle). :D Here's mine.

I love the 941 because most people at the range don't know wth it is. Everyone knows what a Glock is. People ask me about it all the time.

I have one too! :D I really like it

Get the 40 caliber and don't look back. Recoil is not significantly different, as is the overall size and weight of the pistol.

Be sure to get the tritium night sights as an option, as well as a quality holster.

Buy some good ammo now before they tax it out of reach. Same with mags. At least six high caps.

Go shoot it and get used to it. The old rule of thumb was at least 250 rounds down range to break the unit in and be somewhat comfortable with it.

Forward........

Glocks are great guns and if that is what you prefer it is a great choice. I like the 19 better than the 17 but either one work well for me.

My favorite 9mm, or pistol period, is the Browning Hi-Power. I have both steel framed and alloy framed ones. They are smaller, lighter, handier, and faster handling than any of the rest of the double stack guns for me. They probably aren't as tough as the Glock but I haven't seen anyone wear one out.

I've owned roughly every glock model, I've yet to find a 9mm model I've liked as much as my XDM.
