i'm in the market for a glock.

i've held/fired both yesterday. much to my surprise, there really isn't any size difference between the g19 and g36. both weapons have fired great and feel good in my hands.

i like the idea of having only one caliber of bullet around the house (i already have a 1911 and stock .45acp), so i'm kind of partial to the 36.

but the 19 is in 9mm, which is cheaper to shoot, and the g19 is a considerably higher capacity over the g36.

any advice? this weapon will be my concealed carry weapon-- i'm getting my ccw in august. is there a major merit that one has over the other? maybe availability of parts, or accessories, or reliability?

Since their sizes are sooo close, the large variance in capacity would be too much for me to overlook. For me, 15+ rounds of premium 9mm hollowpoints would be much prefered over 6 of .45 regardless of the .45s ability to stop dinosaurs, tanks and small countries.

If it was like 8 rounds in 9mm and 6 in .45 then maybe the G36.

bullet dia. 9mm=.355 .45=.452 differance=.097 Not a huge differance. I perfer 9mm over .45 due to triple or double tap quickier and within the center. I loaded my taurus with black hills +p 124 gr. I have 16 rounds with two mags to spare. I also use a buffer system to reduce slide slap on the taurus. Thanks to my fellow members here for recommending that one.

Go with the 19 very nice compact pistol

How about a 3rd choice?...A .40 Glock model 23?...One of the BEST "combat handguns" ever made, IMO.

I own 11 Glocks. Its purely a matter of personal preference, but between the 19 and 36 I prefer the 19. So easy to shoot, 15+1 rounds on tap. Cheap at the range. The 23 is no sissy either, mind you, but it is a little snappier. Again, its purely subjective. Any of them are capable of making a bad guy be nice. So just pick your favorite flavor and go for it.

G17 with G34 barrel.

right on

caliber choice is all personal preference. with current technology, all three glock calibers (minus .380) perform pretty close to each other. i wouldnt think ammo prices would vary that much either.

which felt better?
which will conceal better?
which did you shoot better?

Noting that you are form Texas (hot), I would pick the smallest I could shoot well. I've got a kel tec .380 that is mighty hard and uncomfortable to shoot. I keep it in the car.

My baby .40 Glock shoots almost as quickly and accurately as my Sig 229, and is a pleasure to carry. I can also shoot it far better than my .380 SIG.

My vote: Baby Glock in 9 or 40

I've got lots of 1911A1's and a couple Glock G-21's, but the pistol that's not in the safe as I type is a G-19. Easy to shoot w/ 147 gr Gold Dots and Ranger SXT. Plenty of penetration and easier recoil than any 40SW or .45ACP. YMMV

From some serious discussions about Glocks [ www.stoppingpower.net ] it seems that the 9mm is the most reliable .The other choices are 40, 45acp, 45GAP .While a 9mm with premium bullet and +P works well I'm a big bore fan !! I carry a 40 HK and you won't find any better performance with 45acp or 45GAP. BTW NYSP and PASP are going to the 45GAP [choices for a department gun are not always made with all the facts !! ]. While superduty truck thinks the 9mm and 45 aren't that different in diameter,it's not diameter .It's cross section !!! diameterxdiameter !! Why is it that for hunting dangerous game in Africa they recommend .40 or more ?? Size does matter.

Glock 23 Or 32 . I Carry A 23 With A .357 Sig Barrel Hard To Beat The Knockdown Of A .357

Have you tried the Glock 30? 10+1 and only slightly thicker through the grip than the 36. For me the Glock 30 feels better in hand, is very controllable, and I can hold groups at the range that are comparable or better than my buddy with a Sig 220 (he really is a pretty good shot also).

Which will you shoot more?

I also vote you check out the XDs, I love mt .45 tatical and look twards the 9mm if it is primarly for the range.

i think i'll go with the g19, thanks for the help everyone!

i'm not a fan of the XD lineup. i hate the way it feels in my hand. but i have tried them and shot them---they just aren't for me.

i'm buying my g19 tomorrow! :D :D

If you own a 1911 and like the way it feels in your hand(who doesn't), and you shoot it well, do yourself a favor a and try one of the new Smith&Wesson M&Ps. They have the same grip angle as a 1911 so they will not naturally point low like a Glock does(with most people) and they also have interchangeable backstraps so that it will fit the smallestest hands to the biggest hands. The M&Ps also have the lightest recoil pulse of anything I have shot in a long time, and I shoot a lot of handguns. I am not a Glock basher, hell I own 7 of them, but I much prefer the M&P. They also make the M&P in a compact version. You really need to at least go and hold one before you buy anything else, and I would bet money that if you shot a Glock, an XD and an M&P that you would wind up buying an M&P.

I'm a 1911, 45acp guy, but 9mm is cheap and fun to shoot. I bought a FN HiPower and love shooting 9mm. I'd go to Glocktalk and read up on these. I liked the 36 but it may be harder to find mags and accessories.
