Glock 19 or Glock 36?

How about 13+1 in .45acp?
Springfield XD-45. Nuff said.

I agree.

I currently EDC a Springfield XD .40 compact, and my next pistol will be the .45 version.

Cheaper and much better safety system over the Glock, and reliability and quality is equal to or exceeds the Glock.

I prefer the G23..I have had mine for 6 years now..Never had a problem and fits my hand great. I have shot the 19 and, for me, I could not notice a difference in recoil.

I have read several times of problems with the .45 ACP caliber Glocks. Since I don't own nor plan to own one I have not paid attention to the details of any such problems. I am happy with my old Glock models 17 and 19 though.

well, i'mm a proud owner of a g19 now!

i put 200 rounds through it on the spot, when i bought it at the shop/range. it's everything i had expected it to be.

it's taking me some time to get accustomed to the trigger squeeze (i'm only used to a single action, 1911).

also, the magazines are a BITCH to load. particularily the last 3-4 rounds.

is it true i should not load the last round into the magazine, because it will wear it out? that is, put too much pressure on the springs and magazine lips?

as i understand it, leaving magazines loaded will not harm them. is there anything different about glock magazines? i keep all 8 of my 1911 magazines loaded at all times, i'll probably keep my 3 glock magazines loaded too, unless it will harm them or something.

Congrats! I like the 9mm better than the g23. I had the 17 during the cap ban and it was too big. The 19 is just right IMHO. I'm packing for the range now. Took the day off, wife and daughter are out of town.

2 new guns to be tried out, a CMP Inland M1 Carbine and a Taurus 66 357. Of course I'll have my 1911's and the HP too.

You'll be delighted with the 19. Inexpensive ammo, slight recoil. Some people feel the 19 is the best glock ever produced. I am amongst them.

I've heard it said that loading the mags full will not harm the mags or springs in any way. And the loading of the mags gets easier once the springs get broken in a little. If you're worried about constant spring compression in your mags, my suggestion is SHOOT OFTEN!

My EDC is the G26. I shoot competitions with a G19 and a G21. Shot all the other Glocks, but I'll stick with these.

"I bet my life on Glock, do you?"
Said by some smart guy...............

The g-19 was the gun you could use if you did not have one are wanted to qualify with a SA when i was taking my ccl class. I asked the instructor if he had any problems with it and he said no, he talked me into getting a 26 and i have no complaints!!.

The 19 is my favorite handgun. It's all business. It may not be the prettiest gun I own, but it's the one I have the most confidence in. With a mag extension, I have 17 rounds of +P+ 9mm hollowpoints on tap. That's pretty serious firepower. I'm in the minority in that I much prefer 9mm over .45 ACP.
But that's a discussion that's been done to death. It's all about what you're comfortable with and can shoot well.

Ok, quick question...

why can't i shoot reloaded ammo through my glock? the glock manual says i can't, as does my local armorer. they all forbid shooting reloaded ammo through my glock... is there anything different about the weapon that disallows reloads? i mean... the rifling is hexagonal, but does that dictate the difference between reloads or normal rounds?

because i found boxes of 50 9mm reloaded ammo for like... 8 bucks. i'm tempted.

I've enjoyed my Glock 19 in 9 mm caliber for "several" years now, although I do like the .45 ACP. I just think the .45 ACP works best for me in a 1911-A1 style pistol, and I prefer my older Colts over any others. John Moses Browning knew exactly what he was doing when he designed them. I have read some reports of .45 Glocks having problems, but you need to research this for yourself if you want specifics.

Most gun manufacturers say they don't guarantee the gun for use with reloads. What they mean by that is if you use an overload and damage the gun that's not their fault and they won't cover it. If something goes wrong that is their fault they will cover it.

Some Glocks have blown up and been found with heavily lead fouled barrels. The lead fouling was allowed to build up so heavily it kept the cartridge from seating in all the way and therefore the slide did not go all the way into battery. The trigger disconnect should have prevented firing out of battery but some Glocks are made so the disconnect doesn't disconnect when it's only a little out of battery.

The hexagonal rifling has nothing to do with it; the issue is that occasionally Glocks are manufactured and sold that can fire out of battery.

Personally I would not hesitate to use reloads with lead bullets in a Glock. I would make sure mine won't fire out of battery and I would make sure not to let the barrel get badly lead fouled, but I make sure of those things with all my guns. :)

cool. i'm in the market for cheap reloads now ;)

how do i know if the barrel is "lead fouled," and if so, what do i do about it? is there like a solvent that will help remove lead buildup or something?

How about a 3rd choice?...A .40 Glock model 23?...One of the BEST "combat handguns" ever made, IMO.

I second that "recommendation to every LETTER." Finest gun made. I have found that weapon to be par excellence. Having TOO many pistols and revolvers - I only carry a Glock 23 since they FIRST came out. ;)

For 20 years I carried a revolver S&W 19/66/60. I have many tricked out Colt 45s, Sig Sauers .45 & .40, S&W .40, and too many others like Walthers and revolvers. HOWEVER, I ONLY have four 23s NOT LOCKED-UP in the GUN SAFES and one Glock 27 that is for special smaller bicycle occasions.

Congrats on getting your CCW, go with the smallest/lightest that feels right and shoots well with the biggest bullet.Having had a gun on my waist for half my life comfort is key,if it sticks you you wont carry it.Pick an expensive holster that feels right! Buy a photgraphers vest to conceal it in your hot evirons of Texas. Dont get into shoulder holsters and stay away from nylon/cordura holsters,K? I like Kydex and Leather. Dont stop training with it,ever. When you go to a gunrange or take classes,do this...Keep a diary and take notes. If god forbid you are ever involved in a shooting something as little as this will mean millions in defense fees you wont need to spend. You will appear competant and Pro. my two cents, salute

I carry a Kimber cdp on duty and have several glocks, I recently got a Kahr P 45 and it is everything I could wish for in a edc gun 7 rounds of .45 in a light easy shooting flat piece ,I carry it in a belt slide and can conceal it with a t shirt easily.

Kimber is top of the line!! I have had several and would like to own another someday.

The G19 is a great pistol. I have a G17 as well and a G36 that is my newest one. I love all of em, carry the 36 probably the most of the three but I like 45s. In town and about my own place I carry either my NAA22Mag or my Seecamp 32 Auto but I rarely carry that one since its so hard for me to grip well.

Speaking of gripping it well. One thing about the 36 is that if you have large hands like I do it might not fit you well and its a bit of a handful to hang on to with the factory clip when plinking with it. I put the plus one extension on my gun and that helps a lot to give me an additional grip for my pinky. Before doing that I let my brother-in-law fire it as it came from Glock and it jumped right out of his hand. Needless to say that was all he was interested in seeing of that one. Fortunately it wasn't damaged and it was the last shot but in his defense its a lot to hold onto and I even warned him about it before he shot it.
