Things get blown way out of proportion on the internet, so don't let it dissuade you from buying one of the finest handguns out there.
I agree completely. Start with a grain of truth, embellish it, repeat it may times based on second info..........
Dean Spier (sp?) used to be a writer for a lot of the major gun magazines. He got on the Glock bashing band wagon and blew things way out of proportion. I haven't seen him published in a gun magazine since his "ka-boom" escapades.
No gun is perfect. Some come closer then others though. When a "Ka-boom" happens, rarely do the second hand reports accurately relay the facts. I have seen Glocks that were blown up with handloads and understand why it happened. To bash Glocks is a little unfair if you are not going to mention broken noses from the early releases of the M9 (Beretta 92F) which had slide failures with military ammunition. Sigarms pistols break frames, and the list goes on. Unless things are put in perspective, it is impossible for most people to really understand what is being said, much less put it into a reasonable context.
My own personal history with Glocks starts with a very early import G17. So early in fact, the Glock rep's always want to know about the history of this pistol when I talk to them at SHOT. I personally shot this pistol 400 rounds a week all summer one year. I used to count the service life in cases of ammunition but, gave up count after a while because the numbers were just rolling too fast to keep up with an accurate round count. FWIW, This pistol was purchased before Libya bought several thousand and smuggled them in for airplane takeovers, etc.
My personal Beretta is a Brigidier model because I like my nose the way it is and wanted a heavier slide.
My Sigarms pistols have all served me well but, in all fairness, I don't shoot them 40K rounds per year so, no frame failures yet.
I have serval HK pistols (P7

and a Mark 23

) and they are no different in this regard then the other brands mentioned.
