Glock 22?

I don't know much about the Glock 22, but here's an old Chuck Taylor article about the Glock 17. 100,000-Round 9mm Torture Test It's probably old hat to you Glock afficonados, but I was impressed.

A local indorr range rents guns. I go there three or four times a year for fun. The 9mm Glock and Browning Hi-Power are the two guns I can consistently pick up and shoot well. I can shoot the .40 caliber Glocks OK, too. I've never tried the 10mm or .45.

Sorry, had to add more and didn't feel like editing....

All of my above being said... I have to tell you guys... of all my guns, past and present... it's been only my Glock 30 that's been recalled... So I guess Glock can fess up to a short coming... one even that they attest still wouldn't lead to injury - kind of like a 4 engine plane can fly on three engines... if one of the frame rails fails (there are 4) the gun will still, apparently, not present an immediate danger to the shooter... However.. I sent mine in! Just back, in essence, a new gun! And they reimbursed me for the postage...

Things get blown way out of proportion on the internet, so don't let it dissuade you from buying one of the finest handguns out there.

I agree completely. Start with a grain of truth, embellish it, repeat it may times based on second info..........

Dean Spier (sp?) used to be a writer for a lot of the major gun magazines. He got on the Glock bashing band wagon and blew things way out of proportion. I haven't seen him published in a gun magazine since his "ka-boom" escapades.

No gun is perfect. Some come closer then others though. When a "Ka-boom" happens, rarely do the second hand reports accurately relay the facts. I have seen Glocks that were blown up with handloads and understand why it happened. To bash Glocks is a little unfair if you are not going to mention broken noses from the early releases of the M9 (Beretta 92F) which had slide failures with military ammunition. Sigarms pistols break frames, and the list goes on. Unless things are put in perspective, it is impossible for most people to really understand what is being said, much less put it into a reasonable context.

My own personal history with Glocks starts with a very early import G17. So early in fact, the Glock rep's always want to know about the history of this pistol when I talk to them at SHOT. I personally shot this pistol 400 rounds a week all summer one year. I used to count the service life in cases of ammunition but, gave up count after a while because the numbers were just rolling too fast to keep up with an accurate round count. FWIW, This pistol was purchased before Libya bought several thousand and smuggled them in for airplane takeovers, etc.

My personal Beretta is a Brigidier model because I like my nose the way it is and wanted a heavier slide.

My Sigarms pistols have all served me well but, in all fairness, I don't shoot them 40K rounds per year so, no frame failures yet.

I have serval HK pistols (P7  and a Mark 23 :)) and they are no different in this regard then the other brands mentioned.

This is pictures of a Glock that KB. This is the sort of pictures that circulate the internet. If you scratch further than the surface you will find that this particular, uh, failure was caused with a reload with DOUBLE the powder load. ANY gun would have been damaged.

Another problem and possible cause is chambering the same round numberous times. I don't know this to be gospel but the .357 Sig is susceptible to this. Possibly another internet legend. I don't have one so I don't know for sure. (Nothing like peretuating another "problem"). I don't have a gun chambered for .357 Sig since the ammo is not as readily available as some of the others and does tend to be more expensive and not as available.

I don't personally own a Glock, the only semi I own is a Sig P239 chambered for 40 S&W. Will I ever own a Glock? The G35 is looking pretty good. By the way, I do like 40 S&W! You will too if you get a G22.

Any handgun in my opinion has to have one primary thing, reliability. Glock, along with most other premium handguns have that. ONE thing that I REALLY like about Glocks that my Sig doesn't have is that the trigger pull is the same regardless, first or last round.

Many Law Enforcement Agencies like the "decocking" feature on many of the handguns such as the Sig however if the handgun is holstered instead of placed in the belt prior to climbing a wall or fence then it CAN'T discharge.

If it feels good and fits YOU then there should be nothing wrong with any Glock. They are a fine handgun.

One other thing, keep it clean. Clean it EVERY time after you go to the range or shoot it. A clean gun is a happy (and reliable) gun.

Greetings,

As a Glock armorer, I can honestly say that I have never EVER heard of a KB that was not caused by one of four things.
1. Reloads
2. Excessive bullet seeting
3. Bad recoil springs
4. lead bullets

Hope that helps

I am really convinced that the G22 or G23 may be my best bet. (Ive got smallish hands, but not so small that the .40 wastes my wrists after 300-400 rounds. (Did that at a tactical pistol training course I took, but I was shooting the S&W chambered for .40, I dont remember the model, but I do remember it *not* being the tactical.))

I really like the stats on .40 pentration, recoil, etc. So Im set on .40. (.45 just *rips* my wrists apart after about a hundred rounds.) Anyways, this was very informative, and anymore information would be greatly appreciated.

John out.

Here's another $.02 worth. I have had three Glocks 21, 19 and 17, shot THOUSANDS of rounds through them with nary a hiccup. No reloads though. I sent my 21 back to the factory for updating, they did it for FREE. No charge. New springs, bluing, even reworked my 13 round mags. All for FREE. Ya just can't beat a Glock, IMHO. They simply work, time after time and I trust my life to my 19.

i have both a g19 and g22, i have never ever had a problem with either one of them... i have put about 3000rnds through the 19 and about 4000rnds through the g22... they both eat up anything you can throw at them... hell i even use wolf ammo for pinking and nothing has ever happened to my guns except being little more dirty then they should... i buy glock because i know i can treat the gun like crap and get away with... my DE 50ae on the other hand needs to be treated like a baby... i think all it comes down to is that we dont know about the ammo we shoot... an over pressured rnd in any gun can cause a KB... the unsupported chamber in the g22 barrel has long ago been fixed... glocks are up there with sigs and hk's... i would stake my life on the operation of a glock pistol... its the gun i go to bed with its the gun i go out with... well when i dont feel like carrying the sw1911... you can do no wrong with a glock... all the kb stories you hear about just glocks are just that, stories... it happens to all guns!

now for a picture of my glock 22
