Oh I can go heavy metal Don
Sonnydaze
and sometimes do:
Its not a 3 screw but it is an old model Vaquero so about a big a hammer as I care to wear on the belt. Here its modeling a lefty holster I built for someone. It is a .45 colt and as the old model it can handle some feisty loads. Was my bear gun on many a pack trip, loaded heavy.
Have a love hate relationship with the 5" Smith 610 on the bottom there in the first pic and here.
To be honest I mostly love it. I love shooting it, simply, probably the most accurate handgun I've ever fired, and thats out of thousands. I love the 10mm. Things just drop when shot with it. I had to put down a horse with it and that stallion dropped like a safe had landed on its head. I've put down horses and cattle with everything from a .22 to a .45-70. Nothing drops em like the 10. And I do carry it, especially when we go to the back part of the ranch, lions tigers and bears back there, oh my! Big nasty pigs too. But its heavy. Usually take the .45-70 Guide Gun back there too but the horse carries that.
Nichole's got my back with the .45-70, while I fix fence:
Canela the Flying Cowdog is supervising. The fences back here are well over a hundred years old and tough to fix as the wire is very brittle. The pigs break em a lot. For the most part fences act as mere suggestions to cattle anyways.
Actually Nichole was just holding the rifle while I adjusted my saddle after a steep climb. The other makes a better story though.
So day in day out, branding pen or in the shop. Rocking the 43. Mostly for its easy of carry and it shrugs off the dirt and grime of the branding pen.
Interestingly I didn't like shooting it when I first got it. Couldn't hit well with it and it pinched my trigger finger. Then one day I quit trying to shoot it like a semi auto and shot it like a double action revolver. Love shooting it now.
Nichole and Tyler the neighbor from across the way remain unconvinced though, although he does have a Glock 19 too.
Secret to staying clean while ranching? Ride tall horses! Keeps ya out of the dust.
Thanks for the kind words sir.
