Glock or Springfield XD

I should mention that I have very small hands so more than likely the larger calibers are out. Does one adapt better to a smaller hand profile?

If you like shooting a 1911 then get a XD if not then get a glock. Don't know if they still do but bar-sto was the ones making the barrel for the XD and every one that I have shot have been extremely accurate.

Here's my baby :D .357sig V-10 ported.

XD is far more ergonomic which will help a lot for small hands. oddly the only glock i really really like to shoot is the 30 which is short and fat. however last i heard you had to send the XD in to springfield to get it reparied. that is no big deal for me but others it might be. i like XD personally.

I had my answer the moment I held both of them. The XD – for me at least – fits like a glove and handles like a .45 SA. Hands down, Springfield XD for me.

Here is something you can think about and remember i have and shoot mainly an xd45.

there is a roll pin issue , with a few thousand rounds around 4000ish-10,000 the firing pin retaining roll pin will bend... and may need replacement , its a 20ish cent part , and takes less then 3 mins to replace. but something to think about. it will also matter how often you dry fire it, and if you use +p.

So im being honest. there it is.

Carried a Glock 22 for years in L.E. & now that I'm retired, I use a Springfield XD. I consider the Springfield to have all the positive features of Glocks along with added improvements.
Looks to me like they started with the basic polymer frame/stricker design & added a grip safety like a 1911, loaded chamber & cocked indicators that are easy to see while drawing & presenting the weapon as well the ability to check these indicators by feel in total darkness.
The original Glocks didn't allow the magazines to drop free (typical on European designs) & even though I've never had a problem with a Glock mag. I still prefer the stainless steel Springfield ones. More weight & the smooth stainless glides against the polymer frame for smooth mag. ejection.
The XDM models are even better, with match grade barrels standard, better triggers, increased capicity, & adjustable backstraps like S&W introduced.
In short, a Glock today is pretty much the same as a Glock from ten or twenty years ago, while Springfield continues to update & imrove their products, which is why I prefer them. Still have two Glocks (a 10mm Mod. 20 & a .40 Mod. 27) but they stay in the safe while I continue to carry & compete with a Springfield 5 in. Tactical. LOVE it ! ! !

FWIW I just picked up a Kahr PM9 and love it. It carries like a 380, and shoots hot 9mm with controllable recoil. I've fired 400 flawless rounds through it. It has become my American Express gun.

a kahr PM9 or P9 is imho very hard to beat for a edc pistol, they are my favs as all of ya know i'm sure.

I have 500+ rounds through my XDm (9mm) and I love it! :D The Glocks grip thickness is just a little too much for me to feel too comfortable with it. I wear medium size gloves usually, FWIW. Besides handling the Glocks at shows and shooting a suppressed one at the Saddle Butte Machine Gun Shoot, I have no other real experience with the Glocks. :o
Field strip on the XDm is incredibly simple as well, with no need to even pull the trigger. (but I have heard the same thing about Glock being easy to field strip) And most people who I have let fire my XD always seem to comment about how it feels like the magazine is bottomless, which is always fun.
I am 100% satisfied with the XD, and though its expensive, you really get what you pay for! :) Either direction you go, you're going to get a great gun though.
There's my firearm noobie (the XDm is my first gun) ramblings, hope something was useful to you.

Glock of course.

That being said---my next one will probably be a S&W M&P or a Ruger SR9.

I'm on a buy American as much as possible kick--I can't buy an American car(cause they're junk)--but I can keep American jobs in other ways.

I am actually going this Saturday to shoot both guns side by side and hopefully will have a decision by then. :)

Both are excellent. But for me it came down to trigger. And the Glock has the ability to be given a much better trigger IMHO. Now you may be able to spend $200.00 and get a custom trigger for an XD that will blow it away but for about $40.00 I can install a Ghost Rocket, do a polish job, and get a wolf competition spring kit for my Glocks and the trigger will be right around 3lbs with about an 1/8th of an inch of reset. No factory XD that I've played with could match that. And so... I went with Glocks. The grip angle stops being a problem after about 300 rounds if you are a decent shooter. They point just as well as anything else. You just gotta get to know them. Plus Lone Wolf is making some cool slide and barrel options these days for the Glock. I really want a Glock 21 with a Lone Wolf 6" barrel and long slide. What a lovely pig that would be.

When I select a gun these days, as long as it's a brand I know to be accurate and reliable... the three most important things to me are Trigger, Trigger, and Trigger. So for me I'm pretty much a 1911 guy, Glock guy, and S&W Revolver guy. All of which have or can be cheaply moded to have excellent triggers.

I would have to go with the XD, because the grip on the Glock doesn't fit my hand well.Or, if you are looking for a third choice, look at FNH FNP9,40,.357 sig or 45. I just ordered a FNP45 in tan/black. I was going to do a 10mm, but cost for what I liked was $1100+. You can pick up a FNP for the $500-$600 range.

I actually decided on the xd. It fit my hands much better and I shot much much tighter groups with the gun. It has been a hard decision since for years I swore I was gonna have a glock.
